When trying to sign into msn 7.0 on a windows 2000 machine, I am getting "Signing in to MSN messenger failed because the service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later. 8007000e"

I cannot seem to find a fix to this. Have uninstalled, reinstalled, repaired. Have registered all the .dll's myself to be sure. MSN itself is available as I have it running on other systems. The internet works fine on the machine, as does every other application. I've updated every patch I can for windows. I have searched for this error high and low on tech sites and found nothing to resolve it.

I've done direct internet connections to be sure it isn't some wierd firewall or router issue. In the process of doint that I discovered that I get the same area with a network connection plugged in or not. So the error is certainly internal to MSN and how or if it's looking for a connection, but I cannot find a setting to fix this. On settings, when I test tcp connection in the options field it tells me I have a connection and can sign into msn. When I have it test the connection on the screen before that(click test instead of advanced), it tells me it does not have a connection.

Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated, I really don't want to reinstall this guys system for something as basic as msn. Thanks!

    Hi and welcome to MajorGeeks.

    Please don't DOUBLE-POST.

    See if THIS helps.

sorry about the double post, I got an error on the first post for an invalid path or something and had to try again, guess it went through and I didn't notice.

and I already tried that, thanks though.

Completely uninstall Messenger. Make sure there are no remnant files or folders.

Then go to Start, Run and type in %temp% and then OK. (Not sure if that shortcut works on 2000, but it should. If not, manually go to your temp folder)

Delete everything in the folder, then reinstall Messenger.

If for some reason it won't let you delete some files, do so in Safe Mode, or failing that, use something like MoveOnBoot or Pocket KillBox.

What version of Messenger 7 is it?

    Do you have a firewall?

Have you tried the Messenger troubleshooter, and if so, exactly what does it say?
