This is concerning windows live messenger and im running windows XP.

Ive run spyware search and destroy , lavasoft , updated everything and even ran avast! scan and this problem remains.

Which is when i am signed in to windows live messenger i get people that are not on my list just random emails send me spam usually telling me to visit a website or add them.

    Example

    Hi

Seems later versions of MSN Messenger do allow for users not on your contacts list to send you messages, you can add them to your blocked user list or one method that may work is to open MSN up and click Tools > Options > Privacy and tick the Only Allow Users on my Allow list to send me messages and apply.

Also I would be tempted to change your MSN Messenger email passport to another one as its possible you have posted your email address online or used on a website that sold your email address on, in which spammers use to send messages, I have a specific email address for MSN Live thats not used in the wild, only for MSN and a few limited specific sites that I know are ok in regards to privacy.

It is also possible with some virii that its not you infected but someone on your contact list so they are unwittingly sending you spam.

If you wish to check your clear of malware then you will have to follow the READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide and attach logs, but I do feel its not malware on your PC, but the latest way spammers are attacking us, so blocking is only way at present until the Instant Messengers add auto spam blocking to their arsenal.

ya i would assume that my email adress somehow got to some spam site/spammer but honestly i dont feel like going through the trouble of creating a new email.

The options of only letting people on the allow list send me messages seem to have worked.. but just to make sure everyone on my list is on the allowed list correct?
