    Hey MajorGeeks team,
Was just wondering if you can help me solve this pesky msn virus my partner seem to have caught. How it was caught was she accepted a file from someone on MSN thinking it was a picture in a zip, but it was a virus. :( I've attached here a hijack log, sorry about how fat it is; Hope it helps!
Thanks for helping me out team, much appreciated.

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, renaming, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments. Make sure you also uninstall ALL but one antivirus program since you currently have Avast and Symantec installed.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.
    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy - only for Windows XP, 2K, & NT users
      • AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy. - only for Windows XP, 2K, & NT users
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

    You're welcome.

Yes that was at least one problem! It is a worm RBOT.AOA You could have more but we would only know if you complete the procedure given since HijackThis logs do not give adequate information about a PCs malware status. They actually show very little and in addition HJT is not a malware scanner. In addition getting this infection could also mean your system is missing required security updates.

You may or may not have already removed the worm. And you may or may not have other problems. The steps you need to follow were already given in my first message to you.

You're welcome, but did you uninstall all but one antivirus and are you going to run the READ ME?

I would but, problem is my partner's computer is not within reach for me, so i'll have to run that process the next time i can head over and fix it, i will keep a note about that. I think she would feel uncomfortable doing the whole process. Thanks for being so considerate.

Okay but you should talk to your friend ASAP and get one of the antivirus programs uninstalled immediately. Having more than one installed does not improve protection!!! It actually makes it worse since they fight against each other. I recommend that you and your friend also work thru the below:
