So I have an MSN worm...I think.

I have tried most things a novice like me can do to get rid of it but I'm stuck now, and it's still there.
    I've tried reinstalling MSN.
I've done all the steps in 'READ AND RUN ME FISRT' too. I've run repeated virus scans, and a rootkit scan.

I've been told it could be W32/Checkout!91d0b88a but I don't know for certain.

The smyptoms are that my msn freezes and I have to close it via task manager. It also sends out "Image.xx.zip" along with a message to all of my contacts online like
"can I use this pic on my myspace" etc. (although today a freind of mine said they got no message). It also could be a backdoor to Trojans as I get several warnings once this happens, which I don't normally get.
I have also tried going through the instructions on this website http://www.cisrt.org/enblog/read.php?170

It doesn't seem to be there, and I also checked for the variants, unless I made a mistake or didn't do it right...

    Also I use Windows Xp.

Please help...and please use real lamens terms. I'm a real beginner with computer stuff.

A HijackThis log is not requested in the READ ME. Please attach the logs that are requested in the READ ME.

    - C:\ComboFix
    - AVG Antispyware
    - C:\MGlogs.zip

Also you should have uninstall Viewpoint Manager in the first step.

I'm sorry, I don't understand. I don't even know what 'viewpoint Manager' is.

I tried going through the READ ME as best as I could but I can't see what I'm supposed to attach. I am a complete and utter begginer with these things.

You said you had ran all of the READ & RUN ME. You have Win XP and in step 3 of the Windows XP Cleaning procedure it states the below
These are the same 3 logs that I also just said you need to attach.

In Step 1 of the READ ME it gives the below.
This is where Viewpoint Manager should have been uninstalled. It is one of the many items on the list given to uninstall.

I have uninstalled Viewpoint and done the logs, I hope, correctly.
Sorry about this, I'm panicked and confused.

Use windows explorer to find and delete:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\wnpmcs.exe

Download the attached GetRunKeys.zip file into your C::\MGtools folder. Extract the GetRunKey.bat file from the ZIP file into the C:\MGtools folder thus overwriting the current version that is there.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this: GetRunKey.zip

I loacted the file but I was unable to delete it. It says it cannot be deleted because it is already in use, or my disc is write protected. How do I make sure it is 'not in use'

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Now download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.

    * Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * Check the 'Input script manually' box.
    * Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:

    * Now click the 'Done' button.
    * Click on the traffic light icon and OK the prompt.
    * You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune. This program does not require an installation. The executable actually runs the program.

    * Under Main choose: Select All
    * Click the Empty Selected button.

    If you use Firefox browser

    * Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
    * Click the Empty Selected button.
o NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

    If you use Opera browser

    * Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
    * Click the Empty Selected button.
o NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main ATF Cleaner menu to close the program.

    10. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:

    * Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
