Hi all. Recently I stupidly DL'd a worm by accident. It was sent to me via MSN, and I didn't realize it until I downloaded it. My obvious retardation aside I need assistance.

Now I can't open any windows processes like MsConfig, Regedit but TaskManager seems to be working just fine. They close automatically after a few seconds. Also Windows Defender fails to initialize in Normal Windows but works perfectly in Safe Mode.

    Here are all my logs.

Thanks in advance for all the help.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it
double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Check the 'Input script manually' box.
    • Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:
    • Now click the 'Done' button.
    • Click on the traffic light icon and OK the prompt.
    • You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
Viewpoint Media Player <-- should have been uninstalled in step 0 of the READ ME

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Done. Done, and done.

I just tried to open Windows Defender which initialized, and began functioning. Just did a full scan for good measure. Uninstalled J2SE, and Viewpoint Media Player. All the windows processes seem to be working properly, and I'm having no trouble with them closing. However I did get an error for C:\WINDOWS\Resources\fhswzjzhr , and Winlog.ink when I rebooted which I assume is them failing to start.

    Here are my logs.

Download HostsXpert and then follow the below steps.
    • Unzip HostsXpert.zip
[*]It will create a folder named HostsXpert in whatever folder you extract it to.
[*]Run HostsXpert.exe by double clicking on it.
      [*]click the Make Writeable? button.
[*]click Restore Microsoft's Hosts File and then click OK.
[*]Click the X to exit the program

Now do repeat the previous instructions for adding the fixME.reg patch to the registry. Make sure you tell me if you receive a success message about adding it to the registry.

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    F3 - REG:win.ini: load=C:\WINDOWS\Resources\fhswzjzhr\winlogon.exe
    F3 - REG:win.ini: run=C:\WINDOWS\Resources\fhswzjzhr\winlogon.exe
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: Google Toolbar Helper - {AA58ED58-01DD-4d91-8333-CF10577473F7} - c:\program files\google\googletoolbar2.dll (file missing)
    O3 - Toolbar: &Google - {2318C2B1-4965-11d4-9B18-009027A5CD4F} - c:\program files\google\googletoolbar2.dll (file missing)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03\bin\jusched.exe

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    Now reboot.

    After reboot run Ccleaner!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

I restored the hosts file. I had a success entry of FixME.reg into the registry, ran Analyze.exe but the following were not on the list when I went to check them. Both F3s, and O4. I rebooted after fixing both O2s, and O3. Ran CCleaner, and here's my MGlogs. Everything seems to be working wonderfully now. I didn't even get the error prompt for Winlog.ink and C:\WINDOWS\Resources\fhswzjzhr. All the windows processes are staying put, and not disappearing.
