    Hi

What Service Pack to Vista do you have installed and please give us any background info to how that came about, as in what software or Service Pack or Update did you install before you noticed this, did you have malware and cleaned it?

But as mine below is build 6002 and I have SP2 Vista, I would urge you to update to SP2 (download full package here ) as yours is the original driver, if in Device Manager in the SMBios driver properties > Drver the option to rollback is enabled then try that, before the upate to SP2

This is a friend's computer. No service pack installed. I noticed that she tried to install service pack 1 but it failed. No option to rollback driver.

I don't know how long this driver problem has existed. Today her screen went blank and she asked me to fix it. I went into safe mode uninstalled the video adapter and rebooted. the screen came back. That's when I noticed that the driver error was there, when I was in safe mode.

I have attached a report from Everest on the motherboard.

    Thanks

    Hi

That driver is a microsoft one thats added on install, as you mentioned SP1 failed to install its likely whatever cause the failure is what broke the driver, so installingthe Service Pack or maybe even running from an elevated command prompt sfc /scannow may work to fix it (to get an elevated cmd prompt, type cmd in the start search box and then right click cmd and choose run as administrator then type in sfc /scannow *note may need a Vista dvd if files are missing)

I would save off all important files from that PC now as you have it working, then attempt to install SP2, but make sure the PC is free from malware and any security applications are latest versions as those can cause the SP to fail, even goto the lenght of uninstalling the security apps until you installed the SP and its working ok.
