    Right before I started working for my current employer, one of the users, actually the department head, kept complaining that the fan was too loud on his tower PC. Now, this was a brand new rig, and it wasn't making an unusual sound, just that the fan kicked in when it got warm.

    His solution: Remove the cooling fans from the case.

    Not even a day later, the computer stopped working. Naturally the warranty was voided and he had to purchase another brand new machine.
