Multi-mess, ini and dll files missing

Novice so bear with me ok,, thanks, First thing that happened was the computer would not recoginise the printer,, so removed thru add and delete programs and click yes to delete shared files,, Mess started .
Tried to reinstall the printer software ( hp) computer would not reload it.
Did many scan disks . Tried to reload windows Me, also a no go,, missing ini and other files,, So now we are stuck.
I have a gateway computer running windows me, 500 mhz , 164 ram, with windows explorer fully updated with critical updates
I use ez firewall and antivirus (currently uninstalled this morning) update and run spybot weekly. defrag weekly, also have spyware blaster and ccshredder and registry mechanic.
I got the last when I decided to look up a error message on boot up about a missing stlb..dll , got rid of the error box but not sure i got all the malware because by this time the puter would lock up and not down load even simple stuff like shockwave, finally got macromedia player so most of the ie works now, but games and stuff lock me up tight .. I know this is a lot of problems but i read your site regularly and know you are of great help with great patience with novices,
