On one computer there are 3 connections, 2 local one broadband. It's hooked up to a router working, the dial up keeps popping up no matter how many times I've changed it to - never dial a connection and in Lan settings I've checked detect auto settings but it goes back immediately. Think it's one of those connections. ???? Will post photo when I can reduce it. It keeps getting bigger.

Hey Darlene ...Didn't know you were having problems ....so, what's up?
You keep getting a popup for the dial up?
Why is the sbcdsl not connected?
What is the physical set up of the puters and router?

It shows disconnected but it's not. Both computers are hooked through a DSL Gateway Actiontec Router, not the USB the other ones, the bigger ones Ethernet. I can't figure what that numbered connection on the one thats having the pop up for dial up. I'm leary of deleting any but think that might be the cause. The SBC (which is now ATT) self support tool doesn't seem to detect anything.

It's your network adapter ...it will also show under device manager ...

In your local connections ...do you have anything in the dialup window? If so delete it, then do the never dial buton, ok and apply.

In your network connections .....local area connection ....right click the icon / properties / connections ....should be no dial up connection listed ..if there is delete it.

1394 needs to be there ...it's part of your nic card......keep it.

You opened network places to post the pic of the connections ....so right click on the local area connection ....choose properties ...go to connections tab ...is anything in the box under dial up connections (right above where you choose never dial ...)

This is what comes up from that location. I went to tool on the browser to internet options, connections, never dial from there. To click on properties on this window all that appears is - box titled RPC Service, with the only option being Windows Locater, or DCE Cell Directory Service.

local connection 1394 connection , is a firewire connectin on your computer its fine, the dsl going though a router, means you should only have a lan connection icon. The dialup type connection is actually a ppoe connection which is what you will use if hookedup direcctly to the modem, not going through any router.

It's a dialup box. I close it, go to tools, internet options and move it back to (never dial a connection). Then some times a small box pops up to connect, not saying how. Some time you can close it, other times it won't let you play games or get music until you click on connect. My conputer doesn't do that, but I also have 2 icons, the DSL showing it's disconnected too.

    Colemanguy MajorGeek

Yes the only time you need that is when your connected directly to the modem, which your not cause your usinga router.
