    Hi all,

I have an XP machine with multiple network adapters.
One is wireless and connects to router etc.

The other (currently disabled) is a conventional hardwired PCI ethernet adapter. I want to use this adapter to hardwire to another computer (win98se) via a crossover cable. This connection doesn't have to be on the same network as the wireless/router... it doesn't matter either way

Can I do this and how?

OK but how? Do I need a separate network? Or subnet? What about naming Work groups. how does XP deal with that?

    Lots I don't know!

well there is a few ways you can do this.

If you want to hardwire, why not just plug the ethernet adapter into your wifi router?

If the box is far away from the router, buy a pci wifi adapter.

If you cheap and want to do the cross over cable, it should be fairly easy to do. You should be able to just connect the cross over cable in to share the internet connection. Sharing files/pritners would be another story.

Unfortunately I can't hardwire into the router because of geography and want to avoid wifi in this specific case because I need to transfer big files between these two (and only these two) computers, so need max throughput in which case hardwire is better than wifi

    OK got it sorted.

Hardwired into the second adapter with crossover cable direct to second computer IP a subnet 192.168.2.X

All good thanks for the help
