Multiple paths in shortcut target

I came across a computer running XP the has database software installed on it, and saw something weird. The shortcut to launch the database has two paths in the target field. It looks like this:

C:\SB30\SB30.EXE C:\Shared\DATABASE\DATABASE.SBP

Where SB30 is the application, and DATABASE.SBP is a program file. I'm not too interested in the database aspect of it, but what is happening with the shortcut? Does it launch both files? I tried duplicating it with a few dummy text files just to see what would happen, but it wouldn't work. I should also mention that it's set to start in the C:Shared\DATABASE folder. Anybody ever seen this?

 

I would assume the database file is being passed as a parameter, enabling the exe to launch the required database.

 

Yes, we have a shortcut like that on some systems at my work. The first path is the exe and the second is the file with commands being passed to the exe for execution.

 

I figured it was something like that but it just seemed a little weird, because you can get the same result by setting the second path to open with the .exe (change the properties) and just using it as the target by itself. Anyway, works both ways I guess.

 

I think it's done in that way so that by using different shortcuts different databases can be opened.

 

Yeah for sure, but even with different database files you could just create the shortcut from each .SBP file and set the 'open with' property to SB30.EXE for each one. Same result without the confusion of the 2 paths. It definitely not a big deal, I'm just trying to see if there is something I'm missing here. Just for my own understanding.
