multiple spontaneous windows

i am new a computer user. whenever i open my computer to the internet or e-mail (yahoo) multiple microsoft internet explorer windows popup spontaneously (usually 3-4) with the error messages "404" or "cannot find server". After i close them, the page i want is there. i have a Dell 3000 with windows XP home edition. I have mcafee security and have run spybot S&D without success. can anyone help me get rid of this??

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:

When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too (these scans are covered in steps 6 & 7 of the READ & RUN ME sticky)

• Bitdefender
• Panda Scan
• HijackThis

my multiple spontaneous window popup program is gone, thank you. i ran xoftspy se ,spybot se scan and exited my compluter. when i logged back on the problem was gone. i don't which one did it but i am just thankful. thank you geeks, you're the best.
