    Pentium Dual Core E-2200 (Conroe)
    PC2-6400 RAM 4GB
    Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit

After using IE7 for a short while, I try to close the browser.
Rather than closing, it starts opening multiple tabs of the last page visited. 15-20 before you can get them closed. More keeps on coming.
Only alternative is a restart of the machine.
MalwareBytes, SuperAntiSpyware, Avira AntiVir all give the "All Clear". SpywareBlaster has not thrown out any warnings either.

What is showing here? Tools > Internet Options > on the General tab, under Tabs, click Settings

What happens when you hold down ctrl and press W?

If you open IE 7 with no addons, does the same behavior occur?

#1 Enable tabbed browsing is checked. In that list, 1,3,5 are checked.
Always open pop-ups in a new window is checked.
Open links from other programs in a new tab in the current window is checked.

#2 Goes straight to Google search page.

#3 Helpers installed are Shockwave Flash Object
    Jave plug-in 2 SSV Helper
    Yahoo Toolbar helper

Doesn't occur every time. All are now disabled, so will run and see.

Haven't tried closing yet, but keeps requesting for at least 1 of the add-ons. Probably the Shockwave Flash Player.

    Posting this from Opera.
Have been using IE7 with no add-ons, but when closing the browser just now, got 20 new identical tabs in less than 10 seconds.
Don't have this problem on my XP Home machine with IE6.

ctrl + W is supposed to close the last tab, not go to google search. I tested this in IE 7 on an XP Home computer. I had 3 tabs open. ctrl+w will close the far right tab; pressing it again will close the right-most tab of the remaining two tabs.

Do you have any hotkey software installed?

    None installed because I don't do hot-key.

    Now I take it seriously.
Was just an annoyance, but happened again last night while on Facebook, so I
    shut the machine down.
Upon restarting and going back to Facebook, I had a bad surprise.
More than 1/2 of my friends list was missing. That also affected several games I play on Facebook.
Lost a lot of neighbors in Farmville, and a lot of my "Family" in Mafia Wars.
