I have performed the steps to clean my system but believe there are still files that need to be removed. When I open my user account I get a system stop message that says - Error Loading c:\windows\system32\qugqxgao.dll. I removed vundo, zlod, a few PW hacks and several malware programs I can't remember now. I did this before visiting your site so most of the files were quarantined then deleted by AVG Free addition. I have an xml file from the earlier version of AVG which I will also attach. Last - I am attaching the AVG report file per this forum's instructions along with the zip file for MSTools.

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi mythfinder!

    1) Did you run Combofix? If not, please run it now and attach the log with your next post. The instructions can be found in the READ & RUN ME FIRST Go to the bottom of the page and select the link for your operating system. Combofix will come up on the next page.

    2) Go to add/remove programs and uninstall the below:

    - J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10
    - J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11
    - J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 7
    - J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9
    - Java(TM) 6 Update 2
    - Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1

    3) Please scan the following file(s) at either
jotti or VirusTotal and let me know the results.

    C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\gpc2k_TSP.php

    4) If you do not use Windows Messenger (not to be confused with MSN Messenger!!) I would like you to run Disable/Remove Windows Messenger

    5) Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {39ADD068-85E3-4E95-B65A-AC943FEE0F6C} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\pmkhh.dll (file missing)

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: ddcawvt - ddcawvt.dll (file missing)

Do you know what the following is? If not, please fix this entry as well.

    O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [DELDIR0.EXE] "C:\DOCUME~1\Kim\LOCALS~1\Temp\DELDIR0.EXE" "C:\Program Files\McAfee\McAfee Shared Components\Guardian\"

After you click fix, just close hijackthis.

    6) Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Check the 'Input script manually' box.
    • Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:
    • Now click the 'Done' button.
    • Click on the traffic light icon and OK the prompt.
    • You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    7) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune. This program does not require an installation. The executable actually runs the program.

NOTE: This program is for Windows XP and Windows 2000 only. ATF Cleaner will remove all files from the items that are checked so if you have some cookies you'd like to save. Please move them to a different directory first.
    • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
    • Under Main choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
    If you use Firefox browser
    • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
      • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
    If you use Opera browser
    • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
      • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main ATF Cleaner menu to close the program.

    8) Please run C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat and attach the fresh MGlogs.zip it generates along with the Avenger log.

Let me know how things are running now?

Abri – You are a blessing! Everything seems to be working okay right now.

    1) Yes, I did run combofix but forgot to attach the file. See attached.
    2) All Removed
    3) The results from jotti were File: gpc2k_TSP.php Status: OK, MD5: 5d2358f15ba0d9a9e31458ace46c30dc, Packers detected: -, Bit9 reports: File not found
    4) Uninstalled using tool prescribed
    5) Fixed items as indicated. I was not familiar with the entry “O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [DELDIR0.EXE] "C:\DOCUME~1\Kim\LOCALS~1\Temp\DELDIR0.EXE" "C:\Program Files\McAfee\McAfee Shared Components\Guardian\" – so it was also fixed by HJT
    6) Excellent – the start-up error message is gone and I have an avenger.txt file saying the items were deleted successfully.
    7) OK
    8) See attached.

Also - Can you recommend the best free software to use for AV and Spyware? I am a road runner customer and I was using CA Security Suite. I prefer better protection since it didn't really know how to handle these attacks.

    Thanks for your help!

    Your logs were clean.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix then UNINSTALL COMBOFIX (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN
      • Now type combofix /u in the runbox and click OK.
      • Note: The space between the X and the U, it must be there.
    3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    4. If we used SmitFraudFix, you can delete all files and folders related to it now including the c:\rapport.txt log.
    5. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    6. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    7. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    8. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    9. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    10. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    11. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
