Music Driver help

Hello, first post. Need help. I have an HP Pavillion PC with NT bought in 2005. Recently, hooked up Verizon Fios and all of a sudden I can not play CDs or DVD. In fact, it's like it does not even exist. I opened My computer,after loading a disc and nothing pops up. Tried contacting HP, but no answer. Called Verizon Dudes and they pinted the finger somewhere else. Anything I can do for this?

First, we'll need the model of the PC. You said it's an HP Pavilion, but just about EVERY system made by HP is a Pavilion. There's probably over 1500 different Pavilion models, maybe 2 or 3 times that. So, the model number, and the exact version of Windows you're using. Windows NT is a fairly rare operating system. Even when it was first introduced, it never really 'caught on'. You may be running it, but I doubt it. Many other versions of Windows are built on NT technology: Windows 2000 and Windows XP, and even Vista are all built on NT. If I remember correctly, when Win2000 starts up, it says on the screen "Built on NT Technology". Even better, would be to attach an Everest hardware/software report to a future port.
