musicmatch cd won't load

I have a tale of woe: I bought musicmatch basic v7 retail and the cd installed just fine. I bought it specifically for the feature that allows recording of cassette tapes and vinyl records to the hard drive. I did a couple of recordings successfully. Couple days ago, got an e-mail saying I could download an upgrade to v8 for free. Did it. Decided to do some more recording today and got a message that it's now a feature of musicmatrch plus, not basic. So I removed v8 by add/remove, stuck my v7 CD into my CD-ROM drive. No automatic start. So I did the start-run D:\setup.exe thing and got a cannot find the file error message. What gives? Anyone know why my CD won't load now? Did musicmatch do me dirt? I have Win98 first edition.

 

have you tried other cds? Prehaps the cd is scratched or dirty. Try burning it (its legal cause ur backing it up). I have music match 7, and its still good, never done any harm. Dunno about 8, but I doubt it.

 

I had a similar problem with a Sims CD I bought. I got some online updates that I didn't like. I removed the game with add/remove and when I re-installed it,it didn't work.

I'm far from an expert but the only way I got the CD to work again was to formatt my hard drive and re-install everything. I'm not saying you should do anything like that, I wanted to erase my drive for other reasons. What I am saying is that maybe not all was removed from add/remove. If there is still some part of the installation on your computer it may be interferring with reading and re-installing the CD.

You need to make sure that all the musicmatch files are deleted from your computer. Do you have some sort of Wipe program? If so, use it. If not then download one from Major Geeks.
