 Hi all, hope you can help me with another problem I'm having. I was using MusicMatch v8 on my windows xp (athlon 3k, 512 Mb RAM) cpu. It was running rather choppily and sometimes crashed, but I was able to download songs OK. Well, I thought (BIG MISTAKE) that perhaps v9 would clear up the choppiness of playback, so I went to the website (www.musicmatch.com) and clicked 'download latest version'. The download froze, and ever since then I have been unable to either reload v8 or v9. I tried uninstalling v8 thru control panel and re-downloading v9, but to no avail--I keep getting an error message "download failed". This happened 3 months ago. I've tried getting in contact with their non-existent tech support but they are as useless as their FAQ page. Fortunately (most of) the music I downloaded is still available; however, I have about 50 songs that were transferred from an older PC (that had windows 98 and 128 Mb RAM) that I cannot play on the current CPU due to a licensing issue. Any help you can provide will be most gratefully appreciated. Thanks again! :D

I don't know why the download didn't work for you but a clean install might work for you. I know you said that you already tried to uninstall and re-install but try again using these steps:

Uninstall MusicMatch again using the Add/Remove option.

Check your computer to see if there are any left over files or folders on your computer. Add/Remove doesn't always get rid of everything.

Now download this program here at Major Geeks (if you already have a program like this than use that one) http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4191.html It will clean out useless files on your computer and maybe what's causing the problems. This will rid your computer of any left over MusicMatch files that might get in the way of re-installing

Now download this program to clean your computers registry (again if you already have a registry clean than use that one) http://www.majorgeeks.com/download460.html

Now try downloading and installing MusicMatch and see if it works. Just make sure you select the Save As option when you download, that way if the download doesn't work you'll just have a half downloaded installer file and not the MusicMatch 9.0 half installed on your computer.

    I hope this helps.

Hello, Col: I did as you recommended. Now I'm getting an error message that the SFX program they packaged the download in, can't extract the files needed to load MusicMatch. I tried using WinZip to open the files, but it didn't recognize the files as compressed. I'm about at my wits' end. I STILL haven't gotten a response from their tech support, either. MUSIC MATCH BLOWS!
    Any other suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Metalhed

That's odd that the MusicMatch downloaded SFX file can't be run and installed. I downloaded MusicMatch 9.0 from their website to see if I could install it and I had no problems with it at all.

Do you have the same problem of not being able to extract files in other downloaded SFX (self-extracting) files or programs from the web?

It downloaded fine the first time I tried it. Also, I've been able to download it onto my computer at work with no problems. The trouble occurred when I tried to update it. I sent their tech support an email on 9/24 and am still waiting for a reply from them. Pathetic! Thanks for letting me vent.

The problem might not be with the MusicMatch download if you can download it from another computer with no problems. The problem might be with your computer. I don't know what it could though.

How often do you do maintainence on your computer; defragment the hard drive, run chkdsk, spyware removal, virus scanner, stuff like that?

this computer *should be* clean as a baby's behind. Due to my frustration level I'm gonna take it to a computer expert to clean & reload the MusicMatch program, then we'll NEVER EVER EFF WITH IT AGAIN!!! My computer knowledge standing has gone down SERIOUSLY with my hubby due to this SNAFU!!! EFF YOU MUSICMATCH!!! I ran freakin' HijackThis, SpySweeper, AdAware, CCleaner, etc. and NOTHING has helped. Thanks for all the help & suggestions, tho!
