    HI!

I'm getting fitted for a straightjacket over this.

My sound abruptly stopped working almost 2 weeks ago. I also started having internet connection problems around the same time (resetting modem would work temporarily but the problem would come back -- ***my LAN is Realtek and my audio driver is Realtek) I tried reinstalling drivers, headphones and new speakers and still no sound. I just did a full system recovery and still no sound (although the internet connection is fine now).

Device Manager seems to think everything is fine (no yellow !'s or red X's).This is what's there:

    Sound, video and game controllers
    -Audio Codecs
    -Legacy Audio Drivers
    -Legacy Video Capture Devices
    -Media Control Devices
    -Realtek AC'97 Audio
    -Video Codecs

I have seen a lot on this forum and others about reinstalling mobo chipset drivers but don't know anything about that. Also saw a lot about KB888111 hot fix but I don't have Realtek HD just Realtek Audio. Is HD a different sound card or just a driver upgrade? I did have the HD driver installer on my desktop before I recovered my OS and wonder if I tried installing it and it messed up my audio.

Another thing that may or may not be related: I started having an issue with Flash a few months ago where I could play videos people sent me on MySpace 2-3 times but then after that they would start to play for about 2 seconds then the picture would freeze and there would be no sound. I was constantly reinstalling Flash (and every time it made me close all Firefox windows) just to be able to watch a few vids.

I don't understand why a complete system recovery didn't solve this...

That reminds me of one last thing: I've heard you can lose audio by doing a system recovery while your printer, modem, fax and/or speakers are still plugged in. My printer, modem and speakers were all plugged in during system recovery. Is this true? Did I almost fix the audio problem by starting from scratch but screw up and cause a new audio problem in the process?

I'm very frustrated and confused and could really use some help.

    To sum up:

    NO audio
Internet connection problems occurred at the same time
    Flash Player problems preceded it
    Did full System Recovery
Internet connectivity good but still no audio
What is the difference between Reatek HD and Realtek Audio?
Should I try System Recovery with all external devices unplugged except mouse and keyboard? I don't want to do that again but whatever fixes it.
    AND
Did I fry my onboard sound card?

    Please help!

    Thank you :(

    Greetings, skoteseme90027.

I see from your report that this may be a Compaq machine - if so, what is the model #?

What is your operating system ? If you are using xp version follow this

    Start
    Run devmgmt.msc
navigate to sound , video and game controllers
    menu
    disable and unistall the device

after that navigate to this site

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...s&dlc=en&lc=en&os=228&product=366155&sw_lang=

    download the driver from IE
    restart your machine
    install the driver
    reboot your machine

may your problem can be solved !! :wave

In sound , video and game controllers menu there is 5 submenu option right click in all of them , fifth choice is the device you must disable and unistall i think , when you follow these steps go to the audio driver path c / jim ( for instance ) find the driver and run exe folder , cover with blanket !! :-D

@ skoteseme90027 - hopefully, an admin will come along and clear this up. I apologize by proxy for the rude hijacking of your thread.
