My Computer Is 6 Years Old: Where Did All These Files Come From?

When I first got my computer 6 years ago, it only took 15 minutes to scan it with AVG Virus. There was only maybe 20,000 - 30,000 files on the computer.

The other day I just did a virus scan with AVG and it scanned almost 400,000 files

Now, I know for a fact I did not put 400,000 files on my computer!! I upgraded from WindowsME to XP last year. I run AdAwareSE a lot.

Where in the WORLD do all those files come from and how can I get rid of them.

and install and run the 4 programs listed there, including CCleaner.

All are free, don't conflict with each other and each finds stuff the other 3 miss.
