    Hello all,

My computer has been really acting nutty lately. It has been freezing, not letting me access certain links I use everyday, it takes for ever for a screenshot to actually take, and it has the hard drive light blinking as if it is running something when the computer is off.

So, I am hoping that I haven't been hacked again, or that I haven't been infested with something that has given so nut job access to my computer.

    Anyone with some ideas?

This could be due to a faulty...
    • Motherboard.
    • PSU.
    • CMOS battery.
I would replace the latter first.

Is this a laptop? Are you sure the blinking light is the hard drive and not the battery charging light?

What is the brand and model of the computer?

A Dell Latitude E6410 Laptop. The hard drive icon is the first one by the ESC key. The battery icon is next but it is closest to the WiFi.

Not a thing mentioned here for the hard drive icon light remaining on when the computer is turned off.

I've never experienced what you describe. I'd probably remove both the battery and the power cord connected to the wall. Then I'd press the onbutton for 15-30 sec. Put the battery back in and connect the laptop to the wall and see if the light reset itself.

Thank you plodr for the input, I just have no clue as to why my computer is acting nutty. I am unable to access my school website properly and have missed a test and the other half of the assignment that was due yesterday. My professor said that since I am having issues and have been going through our technical support at school, thinking it was a problem with the school's website, I will be able to take my test but only after I get my computer figured out.

I am beginning to think like Eldon, where he suggests me check my motherboard. I just truly hope it isn't the motherboard. That is expensive, and difficult to replace especially if you do not have a full time job and a money tree in the back yard.....lol

Not sure of what else to do with this thing. Other than get everything on it I want to keep off and then use it for a really good anchor and go fishing with it....lol :(
