my computer is being site selective

I am running an old Dell with Windows 98 mostly for emails, but some internet searches. All of a sudden I can't get to random sites. It just says this page cannot be displayed. I was trying to order a water filter at whirlpool, but no luck. I wanted to get to salomon skis, no luck, game rival which i have used in the past, but no luck. i even tried putting whirlpool into trusted sites, but no luck. no one touches the settings on this computer, but me. i run adawaare, spybot, mcafee, ccleaner. I have comcast broadband service. help me please. any ideas?

 

ok, i have now determined that when internet explorer is looking for a site, the final address is not complete for some sites so it times out. i do not know why this is true of only some sites. i tried installing mozilla thinking perhaps it might bypass this problem, but no luck. any ideas?

 

Try Firefox.

I've had same problem and by making Firefox the default browser my problem disappeared - that is, I can access the troublesome website on Firefox but couldn't on Internet Explorer7. See my reply post of today "unable to access a website" regarding my own problem which I posted last Saturday....sounds similar to your own problem of accessing a website.
