my computer won't shutdown!!! :(

i got a few errors on sat (or yesterday), don't remember exactly when it all started (this time around). anyway, when i tell my computer to "turn off", it restarts, and when i select restart, of course it restarts. i have to hold in the power button for several seconds to shut it down. i've also tried ctl-alt-del, then selecting shutdown, and it does the same thing. is there anything i can do temporarily so it somewhat acts like normal? i know i need to reload windows xp again (just did it about 3-4 weeks ago, or so), just stalling till the weekend. this time i'll take out my drive and write all zero's to it, and go from there. - sos

 

Turn off auot reboot function.


Right click my omputer> properties. Advanced> startup and recovery > settings.

Uncheck it under system failure. YOu are lucky to get a stop error now when you shut down. Post what you see.

 

thx, i'll write this down for later on (should i ever need it)??!! anyway, between me making my post earlier and current, i had decided (already in process) to install my os on the 2nd drive, run my maxtor software to do a low level format, then i'll start from scratch again. hopefully it'll work better this time? - sos
