my computer is able to start up....but then I get an error message saying that Windows did not start successfully. It then asks me to select, "safe mode", "Safe mode with networking" "safe mode with command prompt", "Last known good configuration", "start windows normally" ....Which ever option I choose, the computer restarts within about 14 seconds there after....HELP ASAP!!!

By any chance, have you run any types of registry "cleaners" on it?

If you've got a Windows installation CD - not a recovery CD - try booting from that. If it boots follow the installation prompts to do a repair install. This tries to correct any faults with your Windows installation without affecting installed apps or personal data.

yeah, you can try the repair from your windows cd, set your cdrom as first boot device, windows will load for a minute, then it goes to asking you if you want to install or repair windows. If you type "r" at this point you go to a command line interface. log in to your windows installation and type chkdsk /R this will attempt to recover and repair any windows files. If that does not fix the problem, then boot from the windows cd again instead of typing in r, you can just hit enter on install windows, it should detect your current windows install and ask if you want to repair it. If you do the repair, it will reinstall windows and leave all your file and folders intact. you will have to reinstall all windows updates though.
Anyone else feel free to jump in here , if I have left out anything
    hope this helps

I don't believe that is correct. The i386 folder, which the repair install uses as its reference point, is constantly updated by Windows Update.

When I performed the windows repair on one my computers, all the windows updates were gone after the reinstall, but, I have mine set to just notify me when updates are available. could be different if you are setup to auto download and install updates
