I need help and just don't know what to do. My computer has now blocked me from even getting to this site. I have a program that has infected my computer, what I've been calling it is an "I search engine". This horrible program will not let me search unless its in its program. I'm getting bombarded with spyware, viruses, and whatever else can connect itself to this. Now someone is using my e-mail to send junk mail and I don't know what to do. I feel like my computer has been hyjacked. Can someone help a distressed lady PLEASE. I did (I think) find it in my add remove programs but when I click to remove it throws me into a wedsite that doesn't go anywhere. I'm lost this is above my computer skills. My friend told me to gut the computer and start fresh, but there has got to be a differant way---anyone know?

    thankyou--jessica

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Please do not post multiple threads for the same problem! Stay in one thread. Starting multiple threads will not help you get an answer any sooner. Oldest threads are answered first. You just need to wait your turn in the queue until we can get to you.

Can you download files to this PC?
If not, do you have access to another PC where you can download and burn to a CD and then copy to this PC? Can anyone help you do this if you don't know how?

What operating system are you using? WinXP, Win 2K,....etc?

    Try doing the below.

    Reset Web Settings:
    1. If you have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, goto step 2. If not, skip to step 3.
    2. Now right click on your desktop Internet Explorer icon and select Properties. Then click the Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK. Then skip step 3.
    3. If you do not have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, click Start, Control Panel (for some systems it may be Start, Settings, Control Panel), Internet Options, Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK.

    need help--already ran hijack this

hi-yesterday on my dell laptop ins. I ran hijack this and followed the beginning steps before hand. (I have windows xp by the way) And OH MY GOD DID I HAVE ALOT OF CRAP/PORN/Junk in that poor computer. But I still have the same problem.--and found another while looking for the first problem.
1st--in my add/remove programs I have an adware/spyware that will not allow you to remove it, and I can't figure out how else to remove it. When you click on it it puts you to an IDownloads.com website and there is no uninstall at site a phone # which I called and got a recording. left message no call back. I looked for the folder for this program to try to delete that but couldn't find one!
2nd-(which I found by mistake) when I went into the windows part of programs there was one that has no title or size but just a install date of 2003-which was about the time that it started getting weird. When you try to remove it, it will allow you to but when you back out of that site then go back into it, its back again.
I am lost is there anything else other then hijack this, or is this ot considered malware?
    thanks so much.:r

Re: need help--already ran hijack this

Hi Jessica, you already have 1 thread open on this problem, in which one of our resident malware specialists ( Chaslang ) has replied, if you follow his instructions above he will no doubt get your PC on the right track :)

please reply in this thread ( as I have merged the two together), without opening new ones as they are likely to be deleted.

I'm not sure what you are saying!

Are you saying you have run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

If so, attach the two logs from step 6 and then make sure you have installed HijackThis properly (per step 7) and attach a HijackThis log.

Let's get an installed programs list from HijackThis too!
    • Run HijackThis, click Open the Misc Tools section
    • Click Open Uninstall Manager
    • Click Save List (generates uninstall_list.txt)
    • Click Save, to save it to a file where you can find it.
    • Attach the uninstall_list.txt file to your next message.
