My daughter's laptop

    She claims she dl'd a bad pdf today for school. She was getting redirects. There's definitely been some things fixed, but I think there's crap left over.

    I'm having issues getting MGtools log. I can't upload the right one.

    Fix what Hitman found.

    Did you right click to run as administrator on MGTools? If so, the log should be located on your main drive>C:/MGLogs.zip.

    Hitman Pro won't fix it without an activation key. Nevermind...log attached. (thanks dr.moriarty)

    and ugh...no, I did not. It was late and that was my last scan.

    Something is stopping the AV and Firewall as well.

    I reran MGTools.

    Also, the computer blue screened this morning with "Critical_Process_Died". I found this: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2559476/critical-process-died-blue-screen-death.html I don't want to do anything while going through the cleaning though.

    Run CCleaner to delete your temp files.

    What issues are you having, as your logs look good.

    Thanks Tim. I repaired the AV, so that is up and running. Windows Firewall is broken, though. I'm getting errors when I try to restart it. I doing a system scan now.

    Other than that, the computer seems to be back up and running fine. Could that be remnants of the virus, or do you think it's just a corrupted system issue that I need to fix somehow?

    Have you tried installing a third party firewall?

    No. I think there were major Windows issues. I'm running tweaking.com's repair utility. Hopefully it works out.

    Okay...I am performing a system restore. The computer is completely screwed up now. :(

    I'm hoping this works. I'm going to have to go through the cleaning process again.

    Are you restoring to a point before she downloaded the pdf?

    Nope, the restore failed...I have to reset to factory. :(

    Something corrupted all sort of system files. Then when I ran tweaking.com's Windows Repair, that completely screwed it up. About the only thing I could still do was get online and access files.

    She had saved all her docs, pics, etc. so I'm resetting and hoping this works out.

    It reset fine, so she just has to start over. She can pretend its a new laptop. LOL

    hahaha...tell me about it. :-D

    She is back up and running and has all her music back on (which I scanned), so she is happy.

    She claims she told me when her AV subscription needed renewed a year ago rolleyes. I'm pretty sure she never told me.
