has finally given up and keeled over.

Would anyone like to donate me a desk ? (preferably a big one thats reinforced ;) )

    Matt

hmm perhaps some 'lighter' monitors may be in order too...

Those $29 K-mart particle board specials have a tendency to do that. :D

Do you glow green Matt, serious amount of radiation out of that lot? ;)

Seriously hope nothing was seriously broken?

I have a Sylvania 20 inch monitor on this desk. It is buckling but not broken yet....

It sort of keeled sideways but fortunatly caught on the radiator, so it sort of ended up like this:

Note my high quality mspaint skills!

the laptop was in the office(so thats ok)

Its sort of my own fault. I got fed up of not being able to find a pen so took the draws out and dumped everything on the bed as a sort of spring cleaning effort and the desk lost all rigidity.

    Its probably IKEA actually ;)

my (now ex) girlfriend did buy me a couple of plants for the room! does that help?

Yeah i've thought about this, but I must be the only person in the world who prefers looking at crt's and I have no idea why, most of the LCDs i've seen on friends computers don't look right to me. probably have to go for digital ones.

Oh you're not the only person in the world who prefers looking at CRT's Matt... This is the case for me as well!

LCD monitors give me a headache; especially when watching videos and using "fast-action" games. I bought one a while back that was a 19" because I heard that LCD monitors literally pay for themselves after a while because they are extremely economical when it comes to their power consumption.

LCDs supposedly have twice the lifespan (of CRT's), use only about one-third the electricity and cause minimal heat output compared to similar-sized CRT monitors. However, I just could not get used to the difference in clarity between that 19" LCD and my old reliable Sony 20" CRT. I tried everything including changing the contrast setting of the ClearType setting for Windows XP. (Microsoft ClearType is specifically designed to enhance LCD displays).

Additionally, unlike most LCD's the Sony CRT monitor that I have can very easily "switch" between multiple resolution settings without any considerable loss in sharpness. If you need to change your monitor resolution frequently, you are likely better off with CRT technology, in my opinion. Anyway, I finally wound up donating the LCD to a local charity (it was too late to return it) and going back to my trusty 20" CRT.

Side Note: BTW Matt, congrats on having the very latest release of your very useful "product key identification" utility Keyfinder Thing added to the Major Geeks freeware software library.

    Good Luck!

WOW...That is the FIRST time I've EVER heard of such!!!! There is no way on Gods green earth I could go back to a CRT after getting my 17" LCD!!!! And my LCD is just just a budget model!!

Hmm, well I guess it's a case of "different courses for different horses", then. Because I have some fairly serious eye issues and the Ol' C.R.T.'s hurt my eyes quite badly nowadays, when looking at them for long periods of time.

I operate in 1280X1024 res. as standard and it seems way clearer than my C.R.T. monitors (all of which were recent and decent models). I've tested this monitor on some very graphic intensive games, and it seems to run flawlessly (I deal with computers for a living).

I think a lot of it has to do with (at least in my case), the fact that there's less glare going into my eyes. F.Y.I. this monitor is just a pretty humble 17" BenQ, which I've used for the last three years or so.

There is some monitor brands that are very 'lagy', though - which are best avoided, i.m.o.

Of course, one major factor for me is the fact that the L.C.D. monitor take up a whole lot less space and weight, which is what prompted my ‘tongue in cheek’ comment in the first place. ;)

I don't even know what it is that makes me prefer CRTs lol both of the ones I have on the (now held together with lots of screws and reinforcing 2 x 1 batons) desk are running in 1280 x 1024, and I just prefer them although I admit I have yet to try a digital output LCD i've only tried the ones on the lots of pins analogue.

To be fair I think they must be high definition, I forget what refresh rate they are on (not att home now) but it can't be too bad since theres no flicker from the photo. (although some to think of it there isn't on the tv)
