My Desktop

I haven't messed with appearance on my computer in months and months, and finally just now went looking and found all sorts of neat things to put on my desktop, and arranged it just as I like. I'm pretty happy with it, and thought I'd share. Post yours if you like....I know, this was done in September, but I missed that thread.
Please size your desktop screenshot to fit everyone screen, so we don't have to scroll back and forth to view.

Do you have URLs...particularly on the clock feature..I love that! How do you do the small quick links? That's awesome too as you can still see the desktop. I need to play with my new one too I think

 

Desktop sidebar. I love this. It has panels that you add, or delete, depending on your preferencs. I love the clock, too, but my favorite is the alarm feature. It rocks!

The moon and the pillbox are widgets from Konfabulator. The moon merely shows what stage the moon is, and since I live in the city and rarely see the moon, it relaxes me to see it on my desktop. Right now, it's a new moon, so it doesn't show up very much on the desktop. The pill box simply helps me remember to take my medicine...you don't want me to forget to take my medicine.

Here's my current boring one -

 

I was digging through my hard drive the other day and found this one. It was made by someone who used to frequent another board.

 

Nothing special. OS X 10.4.3 (.3 came out yesterday, eat your heart out Windows), and Dashboard.

Yes, the WAP sniffer there is displaying one of the networks in my neighborhood--wide open (the sniffer shows encrypted networks with a lock).

Usually, there are 3 or 4 more...they must turn off their routers when they go to work Its annoying when my network goes down (on occasion), and I end up automatically joining one of them.

 

I broke formatting, I know, but mcadam did it first, so....



That, and I'm getting tired of fighting with this image. For whatever reason, lowering the pixel resolution is increasing the size of the file.

 

Heres mine. I just changed it back luna. I can never seem to use any other VS for very long, I always end up changing it back anyways and so it's pretty boring.

Wanted to download the desktop sidebar, then saw how large it was. Would take me hours with my dial up. I do like it, though

BTW...here's my desktop!! Not much to write home about!! Everytime I get the idea to go looking for a new background or theme...I get to looking and see a bunch of cool ones but nothing ever seems to reach out and smack me in the face!! So anyway...being that I am a big fan of the fall season, I like the wallpaper that comes with windows, and the theme is MetalX2 Gold Pro Media XP with free version of window blinds, because it seemed to match good with the fall background!!

yeah it works well. its faster, and has a lot more features than firefox.

 

I could sure use a nice walk through those leaves right now...that looks really peaceful.

On the sidebar I'm having difficulty making it larger to show all the icons I drag on to it. I can see the first two rows only ...any ideas?

 

That is an awesome theme! Which is what I have, actually. I just hope I can turn off the eye-candy when Vista comes out.

 

The widgets are made by different individuals, so some of them are really easy to configure, others are not so good. There was this one that had a countdown to spring training for Major League Baseball, and I couldn't size it, nor could I change the font color. Well, the black font didn't show up so well on my black desktop. But, I was able to leave a comment and tell them that if they could fix these things, it would be a great widget, cuz it linked to MLB, as well as someother cool website which I can't remember right now. But, it had to go.
The moon widget I have can be sized. I have it at full size right now, because I like how it looks, but it can get pretty small, down to icon size if you like. Just browse through all the widgets and find one's you like, and leave a review so they can improve it too.

 

I just had to keep fiddling with everything to get it to look the way I wanted it. If you right click on a panel, go to panel properties, it should give you some options to choose from, such as locking the panel, showing or hiding the panel title, etc. The "autofit panel" option seems to make the panels expand and contract at will, I have mine unchecked.
You can also drag the window up and down to make them larger/smaller. It just takes lots of fiddling, and each panel is different too, so they don't all have the same options.
What panels do you have, maybe I can check them out and try a few things along with you. Cindy wants me to put this on her desktop as well, so maybe when I set hers up, I can add the same panels you are adding and see if I can't help you tweak it. Let me know.
Oh yeah, be advised, this program does seem to use a few resources, so if that's a concern, be aware. I'm doing fine with my Athlon 64 and 2 gigs RAM, so it's no problem for me, but I'm sure you don't need that much to run this program.

 

I played about again last night and got is sussed It's starting to look awesome I'm running an Athlon 64 with 1 gig so no probs there either. Thanks for your help Eric. I'm just running minimal features on the sidebar right now, but shall play about some more tonight and load her up!

Haven't done much to mine, as far as the widgets are concerned...but I guess I'll have to give it a whirl!!!

@ Mr. Clayton...do you know of any free utility like window blinds and/or black box, etc., that is free but doesn't keep popping up to ask you buy the pro version, but also is widely supported in choosing a theme for it?? Guess you could say I want the cake and eat it both!!!!

It's called Winter River......just something that comes with the Windows Media package. I'd never seen it before either, but thought it was pretty cool and topical for this time of year here.

The sky in Sweden. Taken by a friend It stretched when I put it as my background but I like it that way. So calming, with the colors and everything. I love sky pics.
