"My Documents" has become "Me's Documents." Help!

In Windows XP, under "My Computer," there is a folder called My Documents. I've used it for years. Recently, when I click on "My Computer," the list of folders now shows "Me's Documents" instead of "My Documents." I've done a file search and a registry search, and no "Me' Documents" is to be found.

When I right-click on "Me's Documents" and check "properties," I notice that the file is still named "My Documents." Something in the program is misreading the name or choosing the wrong letters of the alphabet to represent it.

There is no right-click feature for renaming the folder. I've used everything available for re-setting defaults, etc. I've also done an sfc /scannow run and a full disk check, to no avail.

    Can someone help with this?

    Thanks.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

I'm not sure if this is a malware problem or not. The best way for us to find out is for you to follow please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide
    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
    Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can run steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.

I went to Dell, and a tech there took control of my computer, went to Desktop/ Display Properties, and showed me that "My Documents" had been renamed "Me's Documents." He then went to my administrator and user profiles and showed me that where no name had been used before, someone had entered "Me." We changed this to my name, and now "My Documents" is named after me as "So and So's Documents." I don't know how my administrator name got entered as "Me," but the problem has been solved.

I thank you for all of your help and your suggestions, and hope that my problem's resolution will we of use to someone else. I was amazed that the tech at Dell knew how to fix this; things must be changing at Dell.
