    Hello
    bjgarrick suggested I post this problem in this forum.
    Problem: Everything that was in My Documents moved to new folder called Jenny's Document and My Documents isn't where it should be so I can't use any links.
    This happened out of the blue a couple of weeks ago, have done the major malware cleanups but they haven't solved this problem. Do I have to fix it manually or do you have another suggestion for me, please.
    Thank you
    Jenny

    Did you open a new user account called "Jenny" or has this account been established for a while?

    When you say "My documents isn't where it should be" do you know where it is? Have you searched for it using the Search function? If so, where is it now located?

    Hello Lev

    Question 1 - Didn't open new account, Jenny has been account since I brought computer home.

    Question 2 - This answer is long winded but I don't know how else to explain what happened.
    "My Documents" was located on Extra Storage (F:) it had been there for a while and I had had no problems. I could link to it from Desk Top, Start menu, left panel in My Computer, anywhere in fact that My Documents was listed.
    Fortnight ago I went in to update a document and message showed "My Documents cannot be found, Check that you have the correct path" (not exact words). I was very concerned as I had about ten years of photos and various documents saved to this location.
    Went into extra storage (F:). There was no My Documents folder, usually was, but a new folder called Jenny's Documents, within this were all the documents I thought I had lost.

    Since then I have done the clean up suggested by bjgarrick. My Documents is now found and the folder contains:
    Assessment1 - empty
    Bluetooth Exchange Folder - empty
    My Music - Desktop.ini
    Sample Music shortcut
    My Pictures - Desktop.ini
    Sample Pictures folder with sample pictures
    My Videos - Desktop.ini
    scitr72v2 - empty folder (create by me did hold webpage documents, this folder is in Jenny's Documents with contents intact)
    desktop.ini - link to Notepad
    [DeleteOnCopy]
    Owner=Jenny
    Personalized=5
    PersonalizedName=My Documents

    Desk Top, Start menu, left panel in My Computer, anywhere that My Documents is listed goes to the above folder.

    Do I need to manually go in and empty the My Documents, move contents of Jenny's Documents into this empty folder, delete Jenny's Documents and then move My Documents back onto Extra Storage (F:). Now I have thought about it and written it down it doesn't sound too difficult or time consuming task but I would like to make sure that I will be doing right thing. Also it would be nice to know how it happened in the first place as I am not aware of anything I did that might have caused it.

    Hope you haven't fallen asleep and sorry about the smiling faces, they are not showing in the draft. Know why they are there but they are not very appropriate and I haven't worked out how to turn them off
    Regards
    Jenny

    Sounds like Windows couldn't find the external drive at boot so it created a new My Docs. If the F: drive is there again, right click on the My Docs on the desktop and select properities and move, then select the folder on F:.
    Then you need to sync what is missing from C:\Docs & Settings\Jenny\My Docs to the F:

    In order to stop this you should keep My Docs on an internal drive and sync it to the external drive as a backup / movable copy.

    Thanks foogoo.

    To answer your question about the smilies, it is because in typing the F drive you happened to hit the punctuation coding that creates a certain smilie. It isn't an issue as we know what you meant to say. You may be able to turn it off in your settings, but all that would do is stop you seeing when you accidently hit them - we all would still be able to see them ;)
