When I turn my PC on, the hard drive spins constantly for the first 30 - 45 minutes. During this time, the response time when jumping on the net or using any software is significantly delayed. I am not sure, but I think it began when I downloaded new virus software about six months ago. I am a Yahoo SBC DSL customer and they provide Norton Protection Center.

I have opened msconfig and tried to eliminate programs I know I don't need but I am not sure in all cases so there are a lot of items in the startup tab. I have also opened Task Manager and Processes while this was occuring to see if I could find the cluprit but I see nothing obvious.

If anyone could help,. I would be appreciative. I have a HPPavillion Laptop with Windows XP. I don't have a lot of RAM but that wasn't a problem for the first year I had the PC.

    Thank you.
