Thanks for the amplification of my comments, Studiot -- great job of filling in the gaps I left, especially for those readers in areas that use 220v utility power. I also appreciate your reference to Scott Mueller -- he's one of my favourite sources too. I have at least 5 editions of his Upgrading and Repairing PCs on my reference shelf.

Superstar -- I don't see any reason the Belkin product you were looking at wouldn't be sufficient. I think I said (almost) as much in my previous post. But I won't recommend a product I haven't used. Have you googled the make and model number for reviews of the product? It often works. But pay attention to who's writing the review. Some are worth more than others.

If you want a recommendation you can hang your hat on, find a professional and pay him for his opinion. Then you can sue him if it goes sour on you. Otherwise, there is likely little you can do if a bad recco leads you astray.

It's doing it to me again. confused Same problem, as in a previous discussion. :p
I can't get back to the original post (#1), or any of the first 10 posts.(
    Anyone else having this problem?
I think I recommended a UPS way back in post #2 :D but can't get back there to check. Bazza

PS: Thread shows pages 1,2, 3 and 4, but won't go back to 4. confused Baz

    Superstar,

You have been told several times in several ways that the belkin will protect you against power line variations including lightning hitting a nearby substation and creating a surge.
You have also been told that it will not protect you against lightning striking nearby, perhaps the building conductor or whatever.
You have been told there are better (at increased cost) and worse ones on the market.

It is now up to you to do the balance of risk assessment, which is a financial assessment not an engineering one, only you can make.

    Good thinking.

I'm seeing similar (but not the same) things. I can get back to page 1 (and yes, you did recommend a UPS over a surge bar in post #2), but the page gizmo shows four pages when page three is the last page in the thread. Clicking on the "4" takes me to Page 3 of the thread. Go figure. confused

Thanks for that, Rob. Thought it was only me. :D
But one thing, how did you get back to #2? Bazza

Maybe it's just the two of us? Why not -- we're only about 12,000 miles apart! :D
Anyway, I got back to page 1 by clicking on the page gizmo for the thread. For me, it works. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I use Opera for a browser, not one of those disgusting M$ products? ;)

It has to do with certain posts that are no longer viewable by general population. The urls dont change, but the page numbers do. Can we drop it?

    Thanks :)

I agree with Adrynalyne you can use a surge protector with ups (That's the setup i've have my computer plugged into).
