My HP DVD 1040d light bright burner locking up

I am new to this site. I am really looking for someone's help. I have a Dell tower and an HP DVD 1040d light bright burner.
The problem: is when I put a cd in to have the dvd fab read it, the computer door slides shut and the computer locks up and I have to hard shut down. I know for a fact that it is NOT the dvd fab/nero causing the issue. I need to know how to get it to stop locking up on me every time I go to put a movie in to copy and burn.:confused
I have done these steps already:Start in safe mode> Start>right click control panel>properties>left click hard drive>click on device mngr>right click DVD burner>uninstall>close all the way out>start>restart.
Can someone please help me?? Someone who will KNOW the right steps, steps that wont cause my whole system to crash?? :cry:cry:cry

Hi

What Windows version and service pack you using?

Is your DVDFab and Nero the latest versions?
Do you have other Burning or ripping apps installed as well as Mounting software like MagicISO or Daemon Tools?

If you have Nero's INCD installed then uninstall it to test as its known the cause issues at times, but TBH to narrow this down and as you mention its only when you enter a DVD in the drive for DVDFab to read that the PC locks up, is to uninstall NERO to test as you will have to narrow the culprit down.

You could try the steps to remove the upper and lower filters HERE as when installing and uninstalling various burning and applciatiosn that use the CD/DVD media they can get corrupted, likely not the issue but one to rule out.... but you will likely have to re-install Nero and DVDFab.
