My Internet Explorer will not open my bmp pictures.

My Internet Explorer will not open my bmp.or bitmap pictures.It just started this few days ago. and it is my default browser.i even tried firefox and it will not open my bmp pictures. ie and firefox both wants me to download my bmp pics , instead of viewing them. but eveything else open fine.i know it not a big deal. but something had to cause this to happen. i have vista windows and ie 8. and i have used it for long time now.and it worked fine until few days ago..dont get me wrong my ie still works fine except for not opening my bmp pictures.. that about it..i uninstalled it reinstalled it.. tried firefox.and the odd thing is my system will not let me restore back. and yes there restore points..so if anyone has any ideas let me know.. thanks in advance...

 

First, go to Control Panel > Internet Options > Advanced tab > Reset button; click OK when prompted; read the stuff onscreen if you don't want to reset add-ons, home page, etc (but it's a good idea to reset EVERYTHING). You should reboot afterwards but it isn't required (tho' highly recommended, none of this will have any effect on Firefox one way or the other). If that doesn't work, download and install IE9 from this link; it's for 32bit Vista only. If you have 64bit Vista, use this link. As to repairing Ffox, uninstall/reinstall? Also, before doing any of this, you might try right-clicking a BMP file, select "Open With..." and kind of 'force' Ffox and/or IE to be used. You can use the "Browse" and/or "Select Program" to choose Ffox/IE.

(I just realized that you may be talking about BMP attachments in emails... is this the scenario?)

 

Thanks dlb for your help.. but it did not work.. but it was my pictures in bmp form that ie will not open. not in my email.. i did what you said. reset ie and it still will not open the bmp pictures.keep wantiing me to download them.ie open everything else. just my bmp pictures ie will not open.. i am going try to put ie 9 in. but i doubt it will install i done tried that. it said my pc need some kind of downloads, i did not have..but anyway thank you again for your help.. and thank you for the welcome to your site.. chatzy

 

i did what yu said dlb. i reset ie 8. and it did not work.. i unstalled ie 8 and installed ie 9and home page would not display. now it will not let me reinstall my blingee plus. that i had on ie 8. after installing ie9 and uninstalling ie 9. ie 8 will not let me reinstalled blingee plus. i have user account on my computer and blingee plus works fine on them. but not on my side.and still will not open my bmp pictures on my desktop files i really do not understand this.. but i do thank yu for trying to help me.. chatzy
