Sigh ........Downunder we had to virtually beg for fibre, and its only FTTN which still involves a run of copper.
They wont even attempt to upgrade to us to FTTX (Fiber laid all the way to the premises/home/building) as this would, no doubt, blow the budget.
Fastest ISP plans available here claim 100mbs, but many seriously doubt that capability with multiple results coming back @ 25mbs or less.

    Cheers :)

Sadly my speed craws along at a snails pace. Ping 64ms Download 1.21Mbps Upload 0.28Mbps. And that would be on a good day. Downside of living in the Middle of Nowhere!

    Kat Who is your ISP.

If the ping is higher than 20ms than most likely they could be throttling you.

Or is there any neighbor's near by that could be sucking up the wifi connection for free.

Or how many devices are you using at home.

Unfortunately it is and always has been AT&T. and it is DSL. There are not many options where I live. Some people near me have gone to HughesNet after leaving AT&T and they are not happy either.

I suspect you are correct. When I dropped the home landline phone and kept the DSL it slowed down noticeably. I think my WiFi is secure and don't think the neighbors are the problem. There is most often only one device connected at a time.

I would recommend on checking the wifi in the settings to see if there any people using it just in case.

That makes no sense. Is AT&T penalizing you for dropping your land line??????

Tim they want everyone to switch everyone to AT&T U-verse. Which is suppose to be faster but does not perform good in my area either. In cities it may be good but not in the country. The phone lines out here have not been updated in 50 plus years.

Yelp!! My Internet goes out several times a year and from the time I call for service until it is fixed it is usually out of service 3 to 6 days. That has happen twice in the last 3 months. I have complained enough that they reduced my bill from $49 to $29 a month for a year, which will be up soon, at which time I think I am done with AT&T. Still not sure what I will do then.

No other options other than AT&T or HughesNet?? That sucks!!

Dish Network has Satellite Internet but even the Dish Network Serviceman who came here to fix the Dish satellite advised me not to get it. There are a few small rural internet providers but none that are any better than AT&T. Only other option is a Hot Spot with my cell phone provider. I was told by AT&T I needed to have at least 2 bars of service throughout most of the day for a hot spot to work well. The number of service bars I get varies and often drops below 1 bar here in the house.

Yea, Dish doesn't have a very good rep.

Dish and AT&T are probably one of the worst out there.

With DISH it's bad.Just to get Internet which is not as fast as landline. They would charge you and extra 100 or more dollars just for the dish it self. That's not including the service of the net.

You would have to buy one dish for normal TV and a second Dish for internet. From what i understand. They would most likely double charge for both.

I am from Denmark, and a year ago I had STOFA 50/50 connection when I suddenly got a notice that my speed in the future would be 80/50 for free!
Now I have upgraded still With STOFA to 300/50 Mbps, but in reality, I have got 320/50 Mbps, so I am a very satisfied customer:)o_O

katkat is Straighttalk available there? They lease lines/space from major carriers but the individuals don't deal with the carriers. The carriers probably don't know who the customers are. At one point a few years back I had a 2g device and got better than what you show. Now on 4g it still is slower than cat 5/6 but it is easy to deal with @ 4/5m down. Are others in your area just as unpleased?

If you have 3 friends/ neighbors, you could split 4 ways - on sale I got mine for $40. $10 each. A 4gig card $40. $10 each. You could use the device 1 week each to see how it works. So a $20 investment to try it out. I'm allowed 5 devices to share so it would be using it as described in tos and all could find out if it's a answer.

Thanks Imandy but I have unlimited data on my phone so data is not an issue. I get better speed on my phone using cellular than using DSL on my laptop and there are things I'd prefer to do on my laptop than my phone.
As I mentioned in a earlier post I would have to give up unlimited cell data which I pay $55 to add a hotspot to my cell it will be 8G data, not unlimited, that I would share with my phone and laptop for $60 a month. The problem with that is cell service is not always great at my house either. So no perfect solutions.
As soon as I have lots of free time I am calling AT&T to complain about the slow internet.

Yes Tim it is as bad as dialup with pages sometimes timing out before they load. Sometime I just give up. Sigh......

Kat...I was having problems with Windstream. They gave me a free upgrade back in May to 25mbps only to find out a few days ago that I was still at 3mbps. I got on DSLReports.com... logged into the forums and posted about the problem. Got a call the next day from Windstream and they reset my router and I now am getting 25.

katkat, can you not connect your phone to laptop via USB or Bluetooth tethering with your current plan?
ISPs don't mind because you're limited to 1 device - the laptop.
With Wi-Fi hotspot the number of devices is ± 10 devices.

No Eldon not with my current plan. I have to buy the hotspot to connect my laptop. So right now I spend most of my time on my phone. By the way my cellar is Cricket which is owned by AT&T but much cheaper. If I switch to AT&T plan the price doubles. I am trying to avoid paying more and since my online time is a lot less than it use to be I can't justify spending more money.
Sorry to complain over and over. :p I'm just frustrated with my DSL. Last two times I have had AT&T test my speeds of course their test shows more speed than my test and I am using the same tester they use. Makes me go hummmmm!
    Thanks for the suggestions!:)

    Not Hotspot!
    USB or Bluetooth tethering.

No I have tried connecting them and turned the USB tethering on in settings on phone. I get a message on my phone saying "Warning go to cricketwireless/hotspot.com/hotspot to learn more". Then the phone turns the USB tethering off. while connected the phone and laptop through USB the laptop recognizes the phone and says "Setup incomplete. Connect to the internet." The only option it gives is to "Remove device".

Bluetooth shows my phone on laptop but has a yellow triangle by the icon. Says I need to install a driver. I let it search for a driver but the search says Android does not have a driver.

Maybe I am missing something or not explaining myself well enough, sorry.

Cricket told me I have to add "Mobil Hotspot" to my plan and they have to turn it on to make it work for my laptop to connect to the internet through my phone. I understand that and I am not trying to get it for free.
I just hate to give up my unlimited phone plan to get a personal hotspot with 8G to share between phone and laptop.

We have a $45 unlimited phone and it knows nothing of the hot spot. The 2 don't even know each other exist. Also have an iPhone limited data unlimited everything else. And a touchscreen dumb phone. None of these devices need or know each other. I can use the hotspot anywhere I want with my pc, my laptop, with the iPhone if I wish or at the beach with anybody's laptop as I wish. A carrier can't decide where or how I use it as long as not more than 5 devices at 1 time. If a neighbor on the next block needs to update something on their pc, I just carry it over and get 'er done.

Normally with blue tooth phones and devices you need a pin to connect to another object.

Like when i connect my Phone to my car for the first time it will ask you to enter a pin number. But it all so depends on the device.

Have you ever though to try modding your phone to it would use the wifi tethering.I wish mine had it,But at last it does not.Be leave me when i say i have tried to mod my phone so many times it would not stick. Some phones are mod able while others are not.

I need to upgrade my phone Boohoo tears running down cheek.

    poke around in https://www.xda-developers.com/

And another problem with my phone is that i can not get android updates.Like i only have android 5.1 lollipop i will not be able to get oreo 8.0 or 8.1 be leave me i have tried every thing.

katkat, what AT&T is doing to you is almost criminal.
I can understand Wi-Fi Hotspot being disabled. But wether you use your phone's mobile data on the phone or on the laptop via USB tethering is irrelevant. It's just one device being used.

    I agree with TimW.
