Okay here is my nightmare. I have a Dell Inspiron 5150 Laptop and I want to install a new optical wireless mouse that was given to. It is supposed to be plug & play mouse but my Windows XP does not acknowledge it. All the indicator light are working on the mouse and I have tried pushing the little button that should tell the system that the mouse is there. And NO there is no “Brand Name” on the mouse and NO software. I have read all the tecnobabble on wireless optical mice until my head was about to fall off. Needless to say none of it ever addressed the problem. Or maybe I am just not wired to understand any of it. I have even tried talking to Dell support which was a big waste of time. Is there any way to install this mouse or am I just wasting my time?? If anyone has a solution I ask you to please keep it simple for I am not a computer wise. Thanks!:cry

Hi there, welcome to MajorGeeks :)

Is this mouse connected via USB or PS/2 connection?
Also, check that external mice are enabled in the bios.

If it's led lights are lit and the mouse isn't working, i'd go to a computer parts store and buy a name brand wireless mouse (microsoft etc)because it would include drivers.

have you tried hooking it up to another comp to see if it works? do you see anything in "device manager"? "right click" my computer --> select properties --> select the "hardware" tab, up at the top --> then select "device manager" (screenshot below). when i plug in my mouse it shows up under "human interface devices", and also under mice and other pointing devices "hid compliant mouse". if i unplug my mouse they all disappear, and reappear on reinsertion. g/l, sos
