Nice laptop :D Be sure to delete AOL though (unless you use it). AOL is almost like a virus (IMO). It would have been nice, however, if you'd purchased the PC from a local independent PC shop. You'd have a name and a face to go with your local tech support which sure beats calling a faceless robotic drone reading from a script in India. And your money would stay in the local economy, feeding local folks, keeping roofs over local heads, instead of adding to a multinational corporation's already bloated bank account. Sorry about the rant, nothing personal and no offense is intended. A good friend owns a small local PC shop (I do occasional tech work for him), and we hate to see people throwing thier money at De**. They come in and ask questions about CPU's and RAM and hard drives and other specs, and then they spend thier money with an out-of-state company and wait for UPS to drop off a box. And as soon as they have a problem, and India turns out to be too frustrating, they call us hoping for a free fix over the phone...... ahhhhh never mind. I'm way off topic and I'm getting bitter and starting to ramble. I'm sorry

Anyway- yes, it's a nice laptop!

Nice to hear about your new system. Good luck with it.
It would also be nice to hear how you got on with the partitions on the old one?

    Hey StudioT,

Everything worked great on the old system. I installed the new HD and partitioned 40 GB for Windows "Workspace," 60 GB for my files and music, and 15 GB for my other Windows XP SP1 partition that I use for occassional duplicating. I'm quite impressed with Seagate and how quiet this HD is. I also upgraded the RAM to 512 (from 256), and I added two new NEC ND-3550A optical drives, so the system is running very well nowadays. I'm going to continue using this PC as a backup. I think I've taken it about as far as I can--as I am unable to use an LCD display with it, and it is unable to run Vista. (I purchased this in June 2000, and it was originally designed for Win98 SE!) As far as the new PC is concerned, I've never been a fan of laptops, but I think I need to get with the times--so I'm excited about my new one coming. I decided to go with Vista Home Premium, although I was tempted to get Ultimate--I heard from a number of places that it wouldn't be worth the extra 200--what do you think? Thanks again for all your help!

    James

Well two working systems will keep you busy for the next 7 years ;)

It's too early to say about Which Vista, perhaps you will be kind enough to tell the Geeks in about 6 months.
