    Hello, fellow computer users!
I have made a website, the link is:

    http://www.eskimo.com/~robstr12/stats_page.html

It is updated "automagically" by a bash script (I don't know PERL) over the web every day from the site: http://stats.geekfolding.com/viewteam.php?team=12072

I am very pleased with it, and would like for people to look at it with different browsers, settings, and so on.

I have particular interest in whether the placement of the four icons in the top of the page look okay.

And, if my reference to MajorGeeks by name is appropriate. I can only assume that parsing data from one page to display it differently on another is kosher.

Anyone who is an "old hat" at web page making that can give advice, or so on is encouraged.

    Regards,

    Robert

    Nice stuff :)

I would go with a different text colour, or background colour, or somthing to make it a bit more readable.

You might find this Blog Post interesting. A nice neat way to make a gradiated background :)

Robster, Great work in IE6.0 all views are good,,the icons are ok,,about extracting from another site ,,im not sure,,but seems harmless enough,,not like you are putting a high demand of bandwith by using hotlinks to others photos,,,so think your in the clear,,Thanks for you work for our team, Glenn

Wookie Folding is what my sig says have a visit to the MG team link in my sig..Glenn

we process data for University Of Stanford

    agreed with goldie,,more contrast,,or a gradient background

As for hotlinking... I wouldn't. It's better to keep the image on your own webspace. That way you send all the data being sent on your website. Makes it fairer.

Thank you all. I will change the background color.
I will also have to look into this hotlinking thing.
Now, keep in mind, that the graphics that are data plots are hosted on my isp's server. So, I suppose that's "my" bandwidth, because it is downloaded from my isp account.

I computer does dial up and parse the website linked above, the
stats.geekfolding.com site, but only once a day, and it dumps it
as an ASCII text file. The graphics for the stats are then produced by my rig and ftp'd to my isp, daily.

The little icons are also on my isp's harddrive, except for the "validation" button, in the top right hand corner. But, that site gave instructions that included sourcing that little graphic from their site.

Goldie I knew the graphs were on roberts server:) ...I was saying hotlinking is NO GOOD  LOL,,the dump of the text for stats has a minimal bandwith draw,,Glenn

Thank you for the link, glennk721, but, I don't want to have a background like that. I want to specify only a background color, to save bandwidth.

Goldfish's idea was great, but I believe it relied on some scripting techniques that I am unfamiliar with. I like the colors I have now, but, of course, they are easy to change, too. :) The contrast is certainly better, and the blue and white are "safe colors" that should render even on machines set to paint only 256 colors.

    hehe...
that's good. Maybe I can get a handle on that tonight. If for no other reason, to satisfy my curiousity about just what an "window-open" is. hehe.
    :)
