My Optorite DD0401 has selective reading!!

Ok, to cut a long story short my DVD drive won't work...sometimes. last week i built a new computer:

Asus K8N-E Deluxe
AMD64 3700+ (Clawhammer)
2x512 Kingston RAM
X700 256mb ATI Radeon
and this stupid DVD drive

I built it and it wouldn't install windows, i thought it was the motherboard and after about a week of asking around and reading loooooads of forums etc found out that it was the DVD drive. I'd like to know if anyone knows how to fix my problem, it's just that it won't read some DVDs/CDs, such as my <ahem> not genuine copy of Need For Speed Underground 2 which works fine, however it won't read my genuine copy of <ahem ahem> Playboy Mansion OR my DVD movies...which are genuine...well actually it half reads them, just that it spits out about 6 frames then the program freezes! It's weird with CD's too, i was able to install the drivers for my wireless keyboard and mouse, but not for my bluetooth dongle!! WHAT IS GOING ON?!!?!!

Oh and also, i've tried flashing the drive (not even sure what this means i just know that i tried to download official drivers off the optorite website and when i tried installing them a box came up saying "flashing"). So i got flashed by this horrid thing as well, and it still doesn't work.

I was just about to fill out a returns form on ebuyer where i got it from, but then i thought i'd give this site a go as it's helped a lot before.

I think you should return it sounds like a malfunction of the hardware dude!

 

thank you baloney 5, i've just put a returns form in, they can take back this rubbish and send me one that burns dvds in a minute, ha!

 

Smart move! If you want a good one, im using the Sony CRX320E CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo (52x32x52x16) Maybe this'll help!

 

Ah yes, no dvd re-writer, try Sony DWQ28AB2 16x DVD±RW Dual Layer Internal IDE
