Well if you're getting extra system beeps on start up it's probably a hardware issue. The computer will beep a certain number of times depending on what the exact issue is, and if you have a manual for your motherboard I think it should tell you what the different beep codes represent. Just from looking around a bit on google I noticed that typically asus boards that beep like 1 long and 2 short, it means there is a problem with the video adapter (video card). Maybe try pulling the video card out and using the on-board video if the motherboard has one built in, and see if it starts up?

Also if you have more than one stick of ram try pulling all but one out, and alternating, and try turning it on to rule out a faulty ram module. I seem to remember a computer restarting randomly all the time due to bad ram.

Those are the only things I can think of to suggest, but good luck!

ok i tried the ram but that didn't work i am unable to do the video card at the moment i have no onbord but a friend is gonna let me use one of his to try it out and see if that fixes the proplem, is there anything else i can try while im waiting for that?

Maybe try pulling the video card out in preparation for your friend lending you one, and see if the computer turns and stays on. You wont be able to see anything on the monitor obviously, but you'll be able to see if pulling the card out gets rid of the error beeps and if the computer stays on or not.

Ultimately though if you can't get the computer fixed, you can get an external hard drive case pretty easily and plug your computer HD into it, and connect it via USB/firewire to another computer to retrieve your files, even if it is a system disk/partition, the files will all still be there for you to transfer.

    cheers

i will give that a shot tomrrow when i get home from work, im thinking i might just get me a new computer this one is getting kind of old if i can get it working that would be great but i don't want to invest anymore more money into so if there is more then the video card then ill buy a new one

well you could try plugging your HDD into another pc, remove the other completely. This would tell you if its the HDD or another hardware fault, also i guess you could remove everything like sound card ect and run the system in a basic state.

Does windows begin to boot or does it just POST then crash? whats the last thing you see on the sceen? see any error messages before it shuts down?
