My Pictures folder freezing up

The My Pictures folder on my computer recently started running slow and freezing up (only when showing thumbnails). It seemed to begin after I did a thorough malware removal. I have not added many pictures to the folder lately. Does anybody know what may be causing this? I'm afraid I may have deleted something I shouldn't have with ccleaner or something similiar.

 

If you have the cd for your computer, go to start, run, type in sfc /scannow, and insert your cd, and it will search and replace any corrupted Windows files.
Note the space after sfc

 

Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately, I have lost my XP installation CD.

 

OK. i worked around it by changing my reg to search c: since i have an i386 folder, so i did run sfc /scannow successfully. However, my pictures folder is still running slow.

 

Open Windows Explorer, click on Tools > Folder Options > General > click on Restore Defaults > Apply > OK

See if My Pictures opens faster.

Glad to see you utilsed the i386 folder.
Try ticking/unticking 'do not cache thumbnails', in folder options, and open each folder in its own window.

 

Well the cache setting seems to have made a difference. After deleting some unnecessary pictures from the folder it seems to be running much better. Still not like it used to be, but good enough I guess. Its strange that it runs fine opening a subfolder of 200+ thumbnails, but its slow opening the my pictures folder with 30 or so subfolders. Thanks everyone for the help.
