Please i need a big help. I have an old gateway profile 5 Intel Pentium 4, that is stuck in power safe mode, I have done everything I know to make it work, but when ever I turn the pc on, the fan is working, the CD Drive is working, but the monitor is blank, with the message power save mode. After that the monitor will go blank completely. When I turned the PC on the keyboard light will come on and then went of again, the mouse doesnt work. I dont know if its the Video Card that has problem, because I am using the AGP that has 1 & 2 sides.

Please can someone give me an idea on what to do.

HI! Welcome to Major Geeks! I think what you're seeing is a message from the monitor saying it's in power save mode, which basically means it is not getting a video signal from the PC. Power down the PC, unplug the power cord, and open the case. Double check the video card and make sure it is seated completely in the slot. If it requires its own power input, check the connection and make it is firmly plugged in. Make sure the video cable to the monitor is plugged into the card completely. Check your memory sticks for proper installation; make sure all fans and heat sinks are clean and that the fans spin freely and easily. If this doesn't work, remove the video card and try the on board video if your motherboard has an on board video port. If not, maybe you borrow a video card from a friend, or buy a cheap used one at your local used PC store for $10 or $20. It could be that your power supply is faulty. Just because the fans spin and your CDs and LEDs light up, that doesn't mean that the PSU is OK. If you have an extra (or you can borrow one), hook it up and see what happens. Again, you should be able to buy a cheap used one for under $20 at the used PC shop. It's not a bad idea to have extra parts laying around for diagnostic reasons and for emergency back ups. For example, if your in the middle of an important work project and your power supply dies, and you have to have the project done by morning (and it's 11pm) having that extra power supply is going to save you project, and maybe your job too....
    Good luck! Keep us posted!

Those profile 5's are a pain....we've replaced at least 6 hard drives out of the 12 we have. Plus all the devices are on a separate board. I take it that you can not even get into the bios? You may have to resign yourself to pulling the hard drive and slaving to another computer.

Thanks for the reply guys, I have tried the CD ROM into another PC and its working in that one. I have also change the power supply last night, I have also taken out the RAM and re-installed them, because the PC have two ROM, infact I took out every single part, and put them back together, but its still in the power save mode. I dont think its the power supply.

Have you tried connecting an external monitor? And/Or disconnecting the integrated one to see if it is the LCD or the video card itself? The Profile 5's have an I/O board that may be the issue. I've got two that do the same thing and I'm working on seeing what can be done. I also had two 4's that did something similar but it was definitely the LCD not the PC itself. After it goes black can you change num lock? Or even Ctrl+Alt+Del ? Let me know what you find out.

    Edit:
Ok I apologize for not realizing the connection for the profile 5 to be used as a monitor alone. Which on mine works. You don't have to turn in on, just plug it in and connect the video out of another PC to the video in. If that is working that there must be something else wrong with the hardware. Start testing other parts inside if you can. I know all my RAM is good, and it shouldn't matter if the Hard Drive is good so we're left with the motherboard and I/O card, which is obviously working for power and video.

I have the same problem in my tech department. What we did to fix this was to simply disconnect the power switch cable from the front panel connecting to the mother board and reconnect it. Don't know the exact reason why it was in power saving mode in the first place... anyway try this, hope it help.

One more method is that for an old Gateway, you have to press F1 really quick after turn on the computer (you'll notice on the keyboard, the light will flash once, providing the PSU working), you will get into BIOS, check the power setting, make sure that it is set to power stay on after power failure. GL.
