My ram is diminishing........

    ive upgraded my ram...i slapped in two 512 sticks and then checked them, alls well..1 gig of ram. Proud of my little upgrade i checked it again the day after, its now down to 960 megs, and today its at 959 !!!!...is there a little ram eating beetle thats flocking around in my comp?.....what causes this?

    im running windows xp pro.......im just right clicking on "my computer" and properties.....at the bottom it tells me im running a AMD 3000+ and then how much ram i have....thx for the fast respond
