Be glad to help you with it Kat. You should start a new thread in Hardware on how to clean the heatsinks and replace the TIM on your laptop. That way more people who work with hardware will see your post. When you start your thread, post the exact model number for the laptop.

Laptops can be a little tricky to take apart, most of them have good online manuals that show how to do it. You will also need a tube of TIM (thermal interface material) or just heatsink goop.:-D I like this one: http://www.arcticsilver.com/as5.htm

Now about the free cat. Do you have any really old ones or some really slow kittens? Fred is pretty old, I doubt he could catch a normal cat. If you could send him a couple of meals, I could save some $ and buy more Folding gear. Seems some upitty team is talking smack and trying to pass us.. :-D

 

My favorite topic: anytime heatsink goop comes up, I get all excited...and post way too much: the right heatsink paste changed everything, my cpu heat, my bios stats, my computer...my *life!!!* Love that stuff!!!:-D

Ahh, and since this is the chatty forum: mind telling us what part of Louisiana you are from? I just love that state, lived in S.Louisiana for many years--oilpatch--and it was so different in old days, for a california boy like me...and I was treated so well...

 

Northern Louisiana duckfeet. Ironicly, I worked for a while in California! Beautiful state. I was in Isleton, Marysville, Sacramento, LA, Desert Hot Springs... To bad the job did not pay well. Would probably still be there!

This whole thread has been excellent, actually: now I follow it daily ... and thanks for the info: I went to Louisiana as a commercial diver, back in the late seventies and eighties, and worked out of Morgan City and that area, and it was just so different down there, and they treated me so well...I could go on and on, the food, the almost weekly festivals, but I won't, just was a good experience....

And I'm retired now--57--and live out here in a little cottage right by the pier in Ocean Beach, and am pretty content, but still miss all my pals out there, from old days: so much has changed in oilfield technology and all that: even when I was there, we kind of could see the writing on the wall, that "wet" divers were not going to be needed...but I got there in time to catch it all...and see my 1st computer, when an engineer brought a laptop offshore

Anyway: you're always helpful on here, and it doesn't surprise me you come from that wonderful state...I was a tattooed scruffy california biker type, and they just took me right in, and before you know it I was eating crawfish and singing cajun songs :-D
