My sys keeps rebooting itself

    I'm not sure if I am posting this in the right forum. If I am.. please forgive me :)

    My prob is that my sys keeps rebooting itself or going to a black screen and freezing completely.

    This happens when I am running IL2 Sturmovik ( A combat flight sim) The 1st symptom is that my sound level drops usually followed by what I've described above.

    I am running XP home SP1 with all updates on a pentium 2.53 with 512 ram and a GF 440MX 64 graphics card. My sound is Cmedia AC97 (err is this on board?).

    I have the latest Nvidia drivers installed ( The not certified ones ). On directx 8.1. All else seems to work O.K..

    Ive checked for and patched against the BLASTER worm. As far as I know I dont have it.

    Being grounded like this is killing me :)

    My friend had VERY similar problems and it turned out to be Blaster.

    Yes but it doesn't get to the OS, it doesn't even have the kernel in the kernel space probably let alone accepting TCP/IP connections or running services...

    It could be an issue with DirectX, sound, or video drivers, but my instincts tell me it might be heat related or power related.

    My fist suggestion is to upgrade to DirectX 9. Just go to Windows Update and download that.

    What version Detonator Driver are you using... if its a beta then that is quite possibly your problem... go and get a WHQL certified one.


    Plus check for and updates for the game ( but I guess as you love flying then you will have done this )


    Have you installed anything NEW since this started.........also close all running background programs down as one of them could be conflicting with the game?



    But I would still think its the DET driver ;)
