My Win 10 Photos File Won't Open... After Spybot Scan (?)

You guys are the bomb! Always help me, thankfully I haven't had an issue since 2011.

I'm using my desktop at work, running win10, I'm the only one that uses it and have been successful in downloading photos from my phone or digital camera through a cable and USB port. Now, If I try to click lower left to bring up a file list and click on "Photos" it looks like it tries to open, with my screen momentarily turning black for half a second then back to my desk top. Same with trying to download photos from phone or camera.

It seems everything was working fine till I did a virus scam with Spybot. Could be coincidental, IDK. I've tried several things to no avail. Everything re photos file has worked fine for years even with virus scans. A couple of days ago I did a complete (I don't know the proper term) unload and reload of everything on my computer, that still kept my existing files. This took a few hours and several restarts.

I believe I can still access photos using a site like Ebay or Facebook, but I can't open or download to "photos" file.

How do you access your photos via Ebay?

Are you using software to make the transfer? What make is the phone? Most cameras and Android phones mount under "My Computer / This PC" as a removable device, from there you can copy and paste them into a folder..which Windows has a default Pictures folder in the "My Documents".

Any screenshots may help.

To clarify, I cannot access my "Photos" file using eBay or Facebook or other sites that have photo posting stuff. On eBay I can add photos to something I'm selling using "My Pictures" but I get a name or number of the photo not a thumbnail. In my "Photos" file I could get either thumbnail or name organized by date taken.

I did remove the "Photos" file, then got it again from the MS store and downloaded it again. But I still can't open it, if I click in it, a large black square appears momentarily then disappears. I need to find a way to get my photos in the file and be able to open it and download new photos into it. My phone is an android Samsung A21s. I have the same stuff on my desktop computer at home and everything has worked fine for years, able to plug in my phone with a USB cable and it opens up my Photos file, click on either my phone or camera type, choose photos I want to transfer and I'm done.

I think after a MS update on around the 26th is when my Photos file quit working. Nothing to do with a Spybot scan.

 

This issue is widely reported on Microsoft's Community forums. Unfortunately there's no solution other than to use a different image viewer.

OK thanks. Is there a way to get my pictures file to show photos as thumbnail pictures rather than alpha-numeric names?
