    Okay then let's try manually removing a couple keys ( assuming you can find them when run ).

    • Now please click Start, and type regedit into the search box.
    • You should see a regedit.exe and icon appear in the Programs area of the Start Menu.
    • Right click on regedit.exe and select Run As Administrator
    • Then in the Registry Editor, navigate to each of the below keys ( one at a time ) and when found make sure that key and only that specific key is selected..
    • Then right click on it and select Delete
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Schedule\TaskCache\Tasks\{1D268409-D9C9-409E-88F4-ABDF8CE1C767}
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{1D268409-D9C9-409E-88F4-ABDF8CE1C767}
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Schedule\TaskCache\Tree\BackgroundContainer Startup Task
    HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-43422388-2980389715-242068834-1000\Software\AppDataLow\Software\BackgroundContainer

    • Keep track of any and exact error messages to report to me.
    • After deleting them ( assuming they delete ), reboot your PC and see if the error message is gone

    I deleted
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Schedule\TaskCache\Tasks\{1D268409-D9C9-409E-88F4-ABDF8CE1C767}

    and

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Schedule\TaskCache\Tree\BackgroundContainer Startup Task

    I couldn't find the other two. But...upon reboot, there was NO ERROR MESSAGE!!!

    Excellent. Now rerun AdwCleaner but this time when you run it, use Run As Adminstrator.

    Then run a new scan with SystemLook using the same previous list of items to look for. I'm guess there will still be many keys to remove, especially from that stinkin UtilityChest crud.

    Attach the new logs from AdwCleaner and SystemLook.

    Some of these may not be so easy to remove with reg patches due to the way 64 bit system software works. But let's try the below.

    Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it skip down to the instructions below for importing with Regedit.
    Importing with Regedit

    • Now please click Start, and type regedit into the search box.
    • You should see a regedit.exe and icon appear in the Programs area of the Start Menu.
    • Right click on regedit.exe and select Run As Administrator
    • Then in the Registry Editor menu click File and select Import.
    • Navigate to the fix.reg file saved to your Desktop and double click it. Allow it to be added to the registry.
    • Now close/exit Regedit and reboot your PC.
    • Then run a new scan with SystemLook using the same previous list of items to look
    • Attach the new SystemLook.

    Excellent!

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others) and running MGclean.bat did not remove them, you can delete these files now.
    7. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    8. If you are running Win 8, Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below to flush restore points:
      • Refer to the instructions for your WIndows version in this link: Disable And Enable System Restore
      • What we want you to do is to first disable System Restore to flush restore points some of which could be infected.
      • Then we want you to Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    Omg! Really?! I'm done??? I never thought it would end. Thank you so very much, chaslang! I actually learned a lot and my dad will be so grateful. I'll make sure he reads and understands the 'How to Protect yourself from malware!' page. My weekends are back! :wave
