I have a home network, consisting of 5 computers. Of the 5, 4 readily talk and admit each other. The one that doesnt work is confounding me to no end. I ping it from other computers, and it recieves a response. I ping outside computers from the one that doesnt work and i recieve no answer.

I have disabled virus programs and firewalls to try to fix it, but no dice. However, I think the computer im working on has an nvidia nforce 4 firewall thingy in it. Could that be the problem? If so, how do i tinker with it to allow my computer to work?

    PLZ help.

That would possibly be the problem but try different cables first because I had the exact same problem with a network of about 10 computers they could all ping one but that machine couldn't ping any and it was as simple as getting a new cable to solve the problem. Also is the cable bent in any weird way? cuz that can sometimes pull on the wires inside which has happened to me before as well.

    Good Luck

I have a similar problem. I can't network my new computer with activearmor firewall with two others that do not have active armor. (the other two work just fine) I know this is the problem, because when I temporarily disable active armor firewall, all three communicate just fine. nvidia markets this as if my computer will be defenseless against a barrage of electronic assaults without their firewall. Will I be doing any harm if I completely uninstall activearmor firewall? (if I can)

I would have disabled the firewall a long time ago, but i cant figure out how to access it. I need a path or something to find it.

o yeah, the cable is fine.

You should be able to uninstall it from add or remove program files. Just find the NVIDIA drivers entry then click change remove. You won't change anything until the next step so don't worry. It will ask you what to remove, first click the radio button - Remove only the following then select [Active armor] then click Remove.

That should get rid of Active armor. And the computers should be able to talk to one another.

Oh and don't worry about the benefits of active armor, its drawbacks far outweigh its benefits. It slows down the network connection and takes processor time. Just use a router and you should be just as safe and you have offloaded the workload.

A couple of things to check.

    1. DHCP or Static IP addresses?
    2. Make sure the Default Gateway is the same as the others (the router IP).
    3. Make sure the Domain (workgroup) is the same on all PC's.

Try uninstalling all the nvidia chipset drivers, then installing the latest nvidia drivers from there site. I have read that a full reinstall sometimes brings it to its senses.

though im not familiar with static IPs etc, we dont use them.
The default gateway is the same. And if it wasn't the same, i wouldnt be able to access the internet or play LAN games (which i can, forgive me for not mentioning that earlier. Thought i did).
The domain name is the same. 100% sure.

Ill try uninstalling the drivers and getting the latest. That's most likely the problem. Ill need my Dad's supervision so i won't screw up, so it might take a while before he isn't on call at work. Thanks a bunch for helpin me so far.

PS: One of the reasons im trying to fix this even if I can still play games, is 1) Its easier to transfer school and homework files thru LAN rather than Flash Drive, and 2) it makes WOW update download less buggy

hey: i think that these problems started happening right around the time i think i got Mozilla Firefox and used that as a internet browser. Could that be a possible problem?

PS: just tried driver solution: Didnt work

Or could it be something like Service Pack 2 aand its updates? Or any program that could cause the computer's network to quit on me for no apparent reason?

    WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I fixed it, and it was pure luck. Feeling out of ideas, i typed in ipconfig /all into command prompt. Then i noticed a difference in the 'nodetype' of the computers. The ones that worked all said "unknown", and the broken said "peer to peer". After a little digging, i found out how to change the node type. following this path

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\NetBT\Parameters

Once there, i added the 'DWORD' file 'NodeType', and set it to 'decimal value', and left the value at '0'. I restarted the computer, and it worked!!!!!!!!!

Hope this helps some of u guys with the same problem.

PS: Back up parameter file b4 u modify it. Accidents can happen
