Name This Religion

I was talking to a internet acquaintance and we were talking about religion and what not... this person was trying to explain her religion/faith to me but didn't know the exact name for it... i'm curious as to what it's called... here are a few clues as to what it might be:

-Christ is going to return to the Earth one day and certain people are going to be saved while others are going to either perish or go to hell
-this faith doesn't celebrate holidays such as Christmas, Halloween, Valentines Day, etc because they are PAGAN
-you have to live your life by and follow the 10 commandments

that's all i really got out of the conversation... i'm not a big fan of religion in a general sense but i reserve my judgement and respect the right of people to have a faith... just curious if anyone recognizes this one and can tell me what it is.... thanks

 

Could also be Jehovah's Witness. They don't do holidays either. Probably some others as well. (shrug) Not much to go on.

Yeah, probably. The Seventh Day Adventists go by the Old Testament more than the New. For some reason, they seem to think Christ must have got it wrong when he said we don't need to go by the old Jewish customs and taboos. They consider Saturday the day of rest. Whatever floats your boat, I guess.

heard or known as Sechism. .but it is not a religion, per se
the "ism" to them(sech) isn't there
the word "Sech" means deciple

Jehova's Witness. I believe the Seventh Day are Christian, and celebrate Christmas and birthdays etc. The Jehovas don't. Both think Jesus will return and claim the believers. Everyone else will perish.

 

I have a problem myself with structured religion. I`m not even sure sometimes if there even is a God...but...if there is, and if there is an afterlife of some kind, I do believe that if you go about your business with a good heart and don`t crap in anyone`s corn flakes there`ll be a spot for you.

 

As a Seventh-Day Adventist, what you've described doesn't quite sound like Seventh-Day Adventism. There are some definite similarities but some things are off.
