NASCAR being sued

This just kinda annoys me. I've become something of a NASCAR fan in the last few years, and just heard from a friend that some guy is suing NASCAR because he made his own track and NASCAR wouldn't take it for the circuit.

Talk about having too much money on your hands. What bothers me most about it is the fact that if by some miracle this guy wins his lawsuit, NASCAR could be forced to ditch tracks like Darlington or Poconos to accomodate this guy's track, which is just stupid. Anyway, there's more information and a petition about this all here.

Anyone else heard about this? Any other NASCAR fans around?

Pffttt...stealing one of my MANY excuses for messing up links?;):D LOL

I have heard tid-bits about this fiasco and personally I thinks it's a bunch of BS. If this guy is successful in his lawsuit the ripple affect will be IMO devastating for years to come. Many communities have literally been built around NASCAR and rely on the revenue generated from the hosting of races to survive. To have Mr. Money-bags come in with his 'build it and they will come or I will sue them and make them come' mentality many communities will suffer to an unbelievable extent. So much for communities, jobs & tradition...this kind of thing just ticks me off..no thought given to what it will do to others, just thinking about how much he can stroke himself.

    :D Hey, it's a valid one!

Yup, that's about how I feel too. Really ridiculous. The ripple effect hits the nail on the head. Moreover, what of the precedent? If this guy gets away with this, what's to stop everyone else with too much money from doing the same?

By the way, that site's a petition that is being collected to help NASCAR fight it, so I signed my name on there. Apparently that group is going around at NASCAR races in person and having people sign it too.

That is is...along with many other clever ones I've come up with over the years...LOL

I haven't gotten to thinking much about that point yet..I'm still to PO'd about the communites...the real live people that would be hurt if this goes through. I just get so angry when people with money think it's ok to take away from the little guy just because they have a bigger bank account...without the little guy people like this arse hole wouldn't have a roll of TP in his bathroom.

I signed it as soon as you put up a working link!:p:D

Kentucky Speedway has boring NASCAR races, the Busch Series and the Truck Series race there each year. He's whining because he assumed he'd get a Nextel Cup race just because he built the track. NASCAR is firm in their gestapo-like ways of scheduling races, however Texas Speedway sued for a second race date and got it at the expense of Rockingham and Darlington, as NASCAR continues to ditch their history and tradition for the sake of 10 or 12 tracks that all look the same.

As is anything NASCAR, it's all about the money...

this is one thing i would sign my life away for. Nascar has a right to race where they want. just because Nascar wont race there does not mean you go out and force them to go there. man do i miss the days before Nextel and all the new rules. but thats another story.

i am a big Mark Martin #6 fan what about ya'll? who do ya'll like?

Bit of a scandel in the making this one if he gets his way and money moves the racing from the traditional tracks.....

I'm looking forward to seeing how the ex-F1 driver JP Montoya will fair in tintops :)

I heard him say something after the race yesterday on the tube....if the 3 car was still around, most of the garbage you see on the track wouldn't happen. So true; the sport has changed so much since his death, and not totally for the better, either. And it's kind of pathetic to see some of the teams get upwards of $5 million a year in sponsor money, win another $2 million in purse money, and finish 35th out of 43 cars, each and every week. That's not racing, that's riding around.

@ Halo: I'm not sure Montoya is gonna make it in this type of car. Stock cars are so much heavier & slower-responding than F1 or Champ Cars, and others (Paul Tracy, Al Unser, Jr., Scott Sharp) tried before him and never made much of an impact.

Yep thinking the same as you Star, he would have been better going into Indy, but maybe he's seen a few of the ex F1 drivers that have sucessfully migrated to GTs and thought he's try similar!... will be interesting in 2007.

Montoya has driven NASCAR before though. And if I remember right, he did very well at it, all be it, they were only practice laps. And since they were practice laps, and he wasn't a sanction driver, his lap records where disregarded and he didn't get a lot of press coverage on it either.

EDIT: I would love to see Schumacher race NASCAR once though. That would be lovely as far as I am concerned. :)

Anyone catch the race this weekend? I missed it. :(

Also, has anyone heard more updates on the lawsuit case? I'm trying to find some news on it--if I hear anything I'll post it here.

I watched it...did anyone really think otherwise?;):D Had my hopes dashed that Jr would win...or at least anyone would win besides *gag* Jimmy Johnson:mad: Kasey Kahne hit the wall hard in the final lap along with several others that also wrecked in the final. Waltrip wasn't able to buy his way into the race this time..I was so heart broken:rolleyes: lol

At least Jr is back in the Chase..I'm happy about that as he had a run of bad luck & lousy cars but seems to be doing much better this year now that he has Tony Eury Jr. back as his crew chief. YeeHaw! LOL
