New on board, not very computer savy but would like that to change so I'll start by asking for help with my home computer. Explorer opens to my home page but I can't get any links or new pages to open or if they do explorer quickly goes back to the home page. Also can't navigate in the start up menu as the window closes too quickly. This also happens with any window that opens by right clicking. Ran adaware and AVG but didn't help and put new batteries in my cordless mouse. The only clue I have is in IE tools the address box for the home page fills in with boxes deleting the address. Sorry for the long read. Looking forward to one day being a contributor

    Browser hijacked?

    Are you familiar with HijackThis?

Also have you done maintenance? Cleared temp files, ran scandisk, defragmented the drive?

I'll get up to speed with HijackThis and perform the suggested maintenance and see where I end up. Thanks.

Just please note, HijackThis is not a traditional ad-ware program. It is a tool to identify running processes.

Attempted to run scandisk but only got an error message indicating Windows was unable to do the scan. Regarding Hijackthis I could end up doing more harm than good?

You may want to go to the malware forum if you think you have a browser hijacker and go through the Read and Run me thread. If you don't know what you're doing, you shouldn't mess around with hijackthis.

I have had that problem running scandisk also. I "think" I ended up running it in safe mode.
The HijackThis results will not at all (if any) be anything to worry about. You can use the system scan and save results option, copy then go to http://www.hijackthis.de/index.php and paste the results in the box and scroll down to see results. Be sure to check the "show visitors ratings" box.
As LauraR stated if you get questionable results from HijackThis then you will need to go to the Malware forum and work through the READ AND RUN ME FIRST sticky for help.
MajorGeeks understandably only wants select people giving instructions on malware and you will get that in the Malware Forum.

Haven't been able to visit the Malware forum yet but did run search and destroy and it managed to solve some of the problems. Still unable to run scan disc but will keep working on it. Printed off a tutorial on hijt that I hope to get to soon. Thanks again.
